Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Error when editing grid since last build

I keep getting this error when I start editing a grid since the latest build. It doesn't stop me from working, just seems to be an annoyance. It also only seems to happen when there is a text area field in the grid.

    Anyone else see this happening?

The attached screen image is hard to view - can you try another one at a higher resolution?

Image seems fine when I open full screen, I'll drop it down to a smaller size and see if that helps.

      Thanks

Thanks - sorry must have been my monitor... I can read it now though.

The error mentions a windows title - do you have a title property in the Grid Properties? I've included a pic below of the setting

        Thanks,

Nope, no title. Show title is unchecked.

I put one in to see if it makes any difference and the error still pops up.

If you send me your component, I'll load it up and see if i can figure it out.

            thanks,

Thanks, it's very odd, almost looks like it's an Alpha script error in the program.

Re: Error when editing grid since last build

Well, I figured out what it is, I just don't know how to fix it.

                It's your Notes Field.

If you define it as TextBox - the error goes away.

If you define it as a TextArea - the error comes back.

So - definitely looks like a bug for Selwyn - I'd suggest you send a bug report from the Alpha IDE and attach your grid1.a5wcmp file.

                Thanks,

Yes, looks like a bug to me also. I'm just surprised nobody else has reported seeing this.

                  Thanks,

                  Bug report going in.

                    Phew...

I thought I was going mad. I've been getting this as well

I have sent a bug report to Selwyn, but he was unable to help as I had other issues with all the files I sent him.

Thank goodness for this board that we can share information like this so we don't go mad.

I must say I have never seen a community more willing to share information in a constructive way from the newest user to the seasoned expert.

Kudos to the staff at Alpha for actually reading what the community has to say and then acting on it.

Re: Error when editing grid since last build

                        ok, i see the problem.

it only happens in 'Preview' mode.
(not Live Preview or Working Preview).

it is a cosmetic bug - it has no impact on the Grid.

it happens if the Grid has a textarea control that is configured to be an HTML editor.

we will fix it asap, but in the mean time, don't worry about it.

                        thanks
