Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    a5w_checkboxes

    ok, i'm building a page and cannot seem to get the values of the checkboxes to manifest for my use on form submission with my webpage. All variables print on the html form when called, so they're not the problem. It throws no errors, just nothing prints as the variable GroupList thinks its empty. (f.y.i: This is an administrators page for changing a user's group permissions)

    I've followed the ideas espoused on http://support.alphasoftware.com/Alp..._Web_Forms.htm, using checkboxes. Tried putting the a5w_checkbox function in the body section instead of head to no avail.

    "<head>" section
    Code:
    <%a5
    '...
    'Create needed variables
    dim groups as C = a5ws_get_groups(request,.T.)
    dim assigned as C = a5ws_get_user_assignments(session.userid)
    dim GroupList[1] as C

    'Instantiate character string to display boxes
    dim htmlchkbx as C
    FOR EACH foo IN groups
    		group = word(foo,1,"|") 'Create substring without the guid after the group name
    		IF containsx(assigned,group) 'Pre-check boxes according to user's current group assignments
    			htmlchkbx = htmlchkbx + a5w_checkboxes(group,"CheckBoxes[]",group)
    		ELSE
    			htmlchkbx = htmlchkbx + a5w_checkboxes(group,"CheckBoxes[]")
    		END IF
    NEXT

    dim newGroups as C

    IF eval_valid('cmd')
         newGroups = CheckBoxes 'Heres where things go wrong
    END IF
    "</head>"

    "<body>"
    Code:
    <b>Assign User (<font color="#008000"><%a5 ? userid %></font>) to Groups</b><br><br>
    <!-- Code to get groups and display relevant checkboxes and labels -->

    <form action=" <%a5 ? request.script_name %> " method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data">
    <%a5
    	? htmlchkbx 'Checkboxes display as expected, Correct ones pre-checked according to user's current groups
    %>
    <br><br>
    <input type="submit" value="Assign User to Groups" name="cmd"></input>
    </form>
    <%a5 ? newGroups.dump() %> 'This displays blank
    "</body>"

    Its likely very simple to remedy, but i think i need another set of eyes
    Can anyone help me? have i over-looked something, a conversion even?

    The reason i'm using logical expressions to populate the page with checkboxes is because more groups could be created or even some deleted through the lifetime of the site

    nevermind, i sorted it out. I fixed the order of all the code and removed the post method from the form. Took a bit of guesswork and testing, but it works great now.

          Re: a5w_checkboxes

          Fair point,
          The solution turned out simpler than I thought.

          It was a matter of not assigning the attribute "method" to anything in the form tags. Just calling the script with the action... and making sure everything was in the right order in that script.

          What I also did to ensure the CheckBoxes[] variable was not cleared when the form submitted, by merely declaring it like so
          Code:
           IF .not. eval_valid("cmd")
          dim CheckBoxes[1] as C
          END IF
          So creating checkboxes using a5w_checkboxes is more elegant than my initial experience lead me to believe.

            I am trying to preset some checkboxes and what you typed for the code you solved your question with does not seem to match your previous statement of rearranging the code... I was hoping to see what your code ended up looking like.
