Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    email send mutliple values syntax

    Using this in the afterinsertrecord event to send this email

    email_send("[email protected]","Email Test",e.datasubmitted.Last_Name,"","","",.F.,"","","")

    Works well. My question is:The function syntax says that you can send multiple emails using comma delimited values. However the code editor interprets this as a move to the next email element of the function.

    email_send("[email protected]" ? "[email protected]","Email Subject", e.datasubmitted.Last_Name ? e.datasubmitted.First_Name,
    "","","",.F.,"","","")

    I want to send to multiple emails and send additional field values. Can this all be done within the function? What syntax would I use to separate the additional emails and field values?

    Tks
    Bob

      Try this:

      email_send("[email protected],[email protected],[email protected]","Email Test",e.datasubmitted.Last_Name,"","","",.F.,"","","")

        alternatively you can use smtp to send email like so

        smtp_send_email(message as P) method

        In this one you basically do this
        dim msg as P
        msg.to="[email protected],[email protected]"
        msg.from="[email protected]"
        msg.bcc="[email protected]"
        msg.cc="[email protected]"
        msg.subject="Test Subject"
        msg.html_message="my message"

        'use smtp_open_email or w/e
        dim handle as P
        smtp_open(handle,mailserver, etc etc etc) (look it up)

        'use smtp_send_email(handle,msg)

          I use email_send2() function, but this format works well for multiple email addresses, attachments, etc. Like anything else, you can hardcode things in quotation marks or use character-type variables.

          Code:
          attachments = ISPfile + "," + attach1
          pm.attachments = attachments
          pm.from = "[email protected]"
          pm.from_alias = "Your Name"
          pm.to = "[email protected]"
          pm.cc = useremail
          pm.bcc = bcc
          pm.subject = subject + indlastname + " " + ISP_Ed_Type + " " + ISP_Edition_Date

          html_msg = <<%html%
          <html>
          <head> </head>
          <body>
          <font face=Arial size=2>Please see the attached ISP {ISP_Ed_Type} for {indname} effective {ISP_Edition_Date}{purpose}. Please confirm receipt of the ISP and any attachments listed below.<br><br></font><br><br>	</body>
          </html>
          %html%
          pm.html_message = evaluate_string(html_msg)

          email_send2(pm,"Oscar2")

            Scott/Chris
            Thank you for the coding examples. I was trying to keep it simple. Sending to multiple emails works with email_send()once I moved the quotes as in Scott's example.

            Can I also put multiple field values in the message part.
            e.datasubmitted.First_Name,e.datasubmitted.last_name. Using quotes and a comma didn't work it just sent the text.

              Look up string concatenation . Basically
              Dim msg as c
              Msg="Hi "+e.data.first+" "+e.data.last+","
              msg=msg+"this email is to show u how to concat strings"
              email_send("[email protected]", msg). Or w.e the parameters u need to send

                Re: email send mutliple values syntax

                You can also use
                firstname="test"
                lastname="name"

                msg="Hi {firstname} {lastname}, This email is to show you how to use the evalstring() method"

                msg=evaluate_string(msg)

                msg will now be

                Hi test name, this email is to show you how to use the evalstring() method.

                Hope this helps
                Gluck
