With an Ajax CB, the e._set.xxx.value allows you to set value in the current grid. Is there a way to set a value in a related grid (from child to parent or parent to child) from within the Xbasic function declaration? For expl an Xbasic function returns a certain value in current grid, the value is set in a related grid.

The Alpha Software Forum is a free forum created for Alpha Software Developer Community to ask for help, exchange ideas, and share solutions. Alpha Software strives to create an environment where all members of the community can feel safe to participate. In order to ensure the Alpha Software Forum is a place where all feel welcome, forum participants are expected to behave as follows:
Be sure all comments and threads you post are respectful. Posts that contain any of the following content will be considered a violation of your agreement as a member of the Alpha Software Forum Community and will be moderated:
If a thread or post is found to contain any of the content outlined above, a moderator may choose to take one of the following actions:
Moderators may also rename posts and threads if they are too generic or do not property reflect the content.
Moderators may move threads if they have been posted in the incorrect forum.
Threads/Posts questioning specific moderator decisions or actions (such as "why was a user banned?") are not allowed and will be removed.
The owners of Alpha Software Corporation (Forum Owner) reserve the right to remove, edit, move, or close any thread for any reason; or ban any forum member without notice, reason, or explanation.

Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting
Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.
When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.
The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.
When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.
A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.
If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.
When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.
Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Set Value in related grid with Ajax CB
Have you watched video # 62? I found this helpful for getting the name of the parent grid, and then manipulating that grid.

Re: Set Value in related grid with Ajax CB
Hi Jay
Doing it with JS is not a problem. I am trying to do it via an Ajax CB. I am nearly there, and will get it to work (I think) if someone can help me with the following:
Just a single grid with an Ajax CB that grabs the value in Text1 field and try to set it in Text2 field as follows:
function vox as c (e as p)
z3 = e._currentRowDataNew.TEXT1
vox = " {grid.Object}.setValue('G','TEXT2',{Grid.RowNumber}, z3); "
end function
The error I am getting is ' z3 is undefined '. Replacing z3 with a static value works. I guess because z3 is a server side variable and is not seen on the client side. The question now is how can I get the browser to see z3?

Re: Set Value in related grid with Ajax CB
I would try it with a button on the "source" grid, using:
z3 = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','TEXT1',{Grid.RowNumber});
TARGETGRID.setValue('G','TEXT2',{Grid.RowNumber}, z3);
vox =
section
Not sure I have completely solved the issue, but hope this gets it closer

Re: Set Value in related grid with Ajax CB
Hi David:
Thanks David, I am getting an error message but definitely the right track. I suspect the bracket after z3 is not in the right place and I suspect it needs single quotes somewhere in there. Single quotes, dbl quotes, brackets have never been my friends. I'll keep fiddling around with it. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

vox = " {grid.Object}.setValue('G','TEXT2',{Grid.RowNumber}, '"+z3+"'); "
last parameter is:
singlequote doublequote + z3 + doublequote singlequoteScott Moniz - Computer Programmer/Analyst

Re: Set Value in related grid with Ajax CB
No Problem.
The reason for this was because you were trying to use the z3 variable in javascript context (i think you knew that).
vox = " {grid.Object}.setValue('G','TEXT2',{Grid.RowNumber}, '"+z3+"'); "
If you translate this to the resolvation (with the z3 variable) it becomes:
GRIDIDWILLGOHERE.setValue('G','TEXT2',15, 'TESTVALUE');
Notice the last value - and compare it to the other strings ('G','TEXT2').
Glad you got it working :)
PS if brackets arent your friend you can always do this
vox = " {grid.Object}.setValue('G','TEXT2',{Grid.RowNumber}, '{param1}{param2}'); "
vox=stritran(vox,"{param1}",z3) <<replaces {param1} with your z3 variable value
vox=stritran(vox,"{param2}",z4) <<replace {param2} with your z4 variable value
This is how a lot of mail merge and templating is done:
'define template
dim myemailtemplate as C="Hi {name}, Thank you for signing up. Your trial is active until {active_trial_date}"
while loop here-------------------------
' reset the template for each new client
dim new_email as C=myemailtemplate
new_email=stritran(newemail,"{name}",username)
new_email=stritran(newemail,"{active_trial_date}", date_Format(trialdate,"yyyy-MM-dd"))
send(new_email)
------------------------------------------end while loop
Hope you learned something useful :)
Its pretty useful to learn the stritran function.
