Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    OnGridInitialize dbf filter conundrum

    Here is the dilemma: I have a grid with this filter:

    e.tmpl.DBF.filter = "Status = 'Active'"

    I also have included "Alphabet search Buttons".

    The grid loads and is filtered on active. Great. I click a letter, say "G". Now it shows all the Gs including ones that are not "active". Then when I click "All", it shows all - including those that are non-active.

    If I use: e.tmpl.base_filter = "Status = 'Active'", when I click G, only the "active" G's are shown. Great. When I click "all", it shows the first page of "Active" records. Great. BUT, when I try to to filter on "inactive" - using the search part, I don't get any records because the base filter is set.

    So what's my workaround?

    Re: OnGridInitialize dbf filter conundrum

    Hey Peter,

    I'm not seeing this behaviour.

    My grid is based on a DBF table. I have two fields I used for this test: ProdCat which has a value of Active or InActive. Also, I have a ProdType which is set to true or false. I put in data so that if the one field is Active, the other field is True.

    I set e.tmpl.DBF.filter = "prodcat = 'Active'" in the onGridExecute event.

    Grid displays two records, both Active.

    My Alphabet search buttons are set to search on ProdName. I click on a letter that I know I have 1 Active and 1 InActive records. The search only returns 1 Active record with that letter. If I click on All I am returned to my original set of filtered, Active records.

    I never see the Inactive records. Same results if I based the grid dbf filter on the True/False field.

    Post your grid and table and I'll try it here.

      Re: OnGridInitialize dbf filter conundrum

      Hi David,

      If you use the onGridExecute (as vs. OnGridInitialize) that works the way you say. But it also kills my filters in the search part. In my search part I have a radio button based upon the status field. Doing it your way doesn't allow me to use the search part filter. I need both, the default start up filter when the grid loads and the ability to use the search part to filter on status (and other fields).

        I'd like to have a run at this, but I'm unsure where you're setting things. Any chance of a table and grid?

          David,

          Sample attached.

          Remember, the idea is when the user opens the grid, they only want to see status="active" members. That's the condition 90% of the time. In my sample use "S" to test:
          1. View the grid - Active members are shown - good
          2. Click on "S" - all "S" members are shown, not just "active" - bad
          3. Click on "show all" - ALL members are shown, not just "active" (which is what we want) - bad
          4. Click on "Filter..."
          5. Click the "Active" radio
          6. Click the filter button - only active shown - good
          7. Now repeat steps 2 & 3 - everything works they way you would expect

          So what I need is for things to be like #7 from the get-go, otherwise users become confused.

            Re: OnGridInitialize dbf filter conundrum

            Since actually using the Search Filter works then I just faked it out when the grid is initialized. Set the initial value you want and search for it.

            In the Javascript System Events, onGridInitializeComplete

            Code:
            $('{grid.componentName}.S.STATUS.1').checked = true;
            {grid.Object}.submitSearchForm();
            However, there's a "blib" when the grid is first initialized - it's full and then gets searched which doesn't look the best.

            So, keep the OnGridInitialize event going with the DBF filter being set - now it looks good and works.

            I don't know if the JS onGridInitializeComplete is the best event to use, or what additional overhead this all causes... but... it's one solution.

              That's a very clever solution, David. Thanks!

                Re: OnGridInitialize dbf filter conundrum

                I hope that this thread will send an email to one of you or someone else can answer my question. I have the same situation as above and have gotten my grid to filter the way I want it to using the onGridInitializeComplete event. I get the little "blib" as described above where the grid shows more records and then reduces down to records for the current date. I can't make that "blib" go away. I don't understand the fix described above "So, keep the OnGridInitialize event going with the DBF filter being set - now it looks good and works." Originally I had tried to set the dbf filter on the server-side event (OnGridInitialize) with the following code but then commented it out:

                if alltrim(SESSION.USERFILTER) <> "" then
                e.tmpl.DBF.filter = "entrydt=date() .and. " + session.USERFILTER
                else

                e.tmpl.DBF.filter = "entrydt=date()"
                End if

                Even if I let this code execute, it doesn't fix the "blib."
                Please help!
