Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Slow publishing files

I have a large application that keeps getting slower and slower when publishing information, whether it be to the server or to the local system.

Right now, I am trying to publish changes to a Tabbed UI file. It has been sitting on "processing file to be published" for an hour now, and still showing no signs of stopping. I know that if I wait long enough, it will eventually upload. The tabbed UI has 10 grids in the tabbed UI controls. I added a grid to the middle of the controls, and that seems to have really slowed it down.

I experience the same problem with large grids also - especially ones that have a lot of linked grids. Even if I just make a change to a small piece of text it takes the same time to upload.

What can I do to speed this up? I can't make the app any smaller, and I need to make changes to things all the time, but I can't wait an hour for every upload.

BTW: I am using Version 10. I read that uninstalling and reinstalling the entire application has helped some people, but that was for version 9, and I don't want to do that without some sort of verification from a current user who has had the same problem.

You could try this: remove your local web developer webroot. Then publish everything from the start to a clean clean webroot be sure your the local appsserver is down when you publish.

What happens if you start moving around your mouse in the upload window during the upload? I know it may sound weird but give it a try.

This sounds as weird but what if you also click repeatedly the upload window during upload.

Frank his answer is correct give it a try, there is the option somewhere you could have a corrupted grid or low level compile error in your apps.
Also, there are known issues with A5 publishing in V10 as I read the forum, If you use Alpha FTP try a other FTP package like Filezilla.
There is improvement on this subject in V11 Beta(FTP protocol).

              Re: Slow publishing files

I don't use FTP to publish, I am always in the same network as the server, so I am just uploading to a networked drive. It is slow whether I am publishing to my local server (the one on the computer I am using for programming) or on my live server.

The actual upload goes quickly - it's not a problem copying the files. Rather, the problem seems to be during the gathering and compilation process. The system seems to be looking through files that aren't even related to the file I am uploading. It will take an hour to compile the document, then do the actual uploading in a few seconds.

I have it also. Cannot find a solution.

Lately, and for no reason I can see, my app has gotten better. There are some times when it's slow, but more like 10 minutes instead of an hour. Make sure you have the latest patch!
