Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to pass information to a redirect page?

    Hi,

    I hope someone can help me with this:

    I have tried the example given in What's new in version 10 --> Grid Component - How To Topics
    - How to pass information to a redirect page? as follow, but it doesn't work. I am using MYSQL database, does this cause the problem, the emailaddress did not get populated to the target page.

    "First, define an 'AfterInsertRecord' event. In this event, add this code:
    e.rtc.mydata.emailaddress = e.datasubmitted.emailaddress

    The 'rtc' (short for 'run-time calculation') variable is automatically made available to all of the server-side event handlers. Therefore, if you add you own variable to this dot variable, you can pass information from this event handler to another event handler.

    Next, define an 'OnPageRedirect' event handler. Add this code:
    e.url = "page2.a5w?emailaddress=" + e.rtc.mydata.emailaddress"

    Hi Janet,

    Try session.__protected__email=e.datasubmitted.emailaddress.

    The value in the variable remains for the whole of the session.

      Re: How to pass information to a redirect page?

      Ha! I get to help someone

      The command you are looking for is response.redirect("yourpage.a5w"). I got this from the Intro to Web Applications series videos. I have a variable called vUlink which returns the session.__protected__ulink value. In the security users table, each user has an external user id that relates back to the contact table; ie. mine is BHARDIN. In the contact table, my contact ID is also BHARDIN. In the contact table, I have a status field that could contain anything - the important thing is that an active user's status is "active" and an in-active user status might be something else (ie. "Credit Hold", or "In-Active", or "Suspended"). So anyway, I modified this code to read the value of the vUlink and then get the status from the contact table and although the user is able to login, the system displays a message that they are suspended and immediately logs them out.

      I am relatively new to the web apps thing - so this might not be the way to go - but I have found that it works for me.

      1. In "Web Security > Web Security Configuration > Login Options > redirect page after login" tell it to redirect to a page called login_processing.a5w
      2. Create that login_processing.a5w page and use code similar to what I show below

      Here's the code:
      <%A5

      'Login_Process.a5w
      'Author: bhardin

      'Login Processing is the first page that is executed after the user successfully logs into the system
      'If we want to validate additional information about the user or process other information before the user
      'truly gets access to our system, we want to put that information here.

      'This is an XBasic only page. It does not display and the user will not see it process. This is how we
      'execute code without user interaction.

      'Security on this page must be set to Authorized login (so that it cannot be accessed outside the system)

      vGUID = a5ws_get_guid_from_user(pUser.userid) 'Guid is the security framework UUID
      vUlink = a5ws_get_ulink_from_guid(pUser.userid) 'Ulink is the Contacts ID Value from the Contacts table
      '

      if "Administrators" $ Group then

      cn = "::name::BBW"
      table = "contact"
      filter = "locid = '" + vUlink + "'"
      result = "status"

      user_status = sql_lookup(cn,table,filter,result)

      'NOTIFY THE USER THAT THEY ARE SUSPENDED
      if user_status <> "Active" then
      response.redirect("login_suspended.a5w")
