Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Multiple Browes with Same Table

    Hello,
I've found similar threads about this issue, but nothing specific. I am using 10.5 desktop. I would like to have a form disply a multiple lists of records in a table where each list will have a differnt filter. I've already tried to do this with mulitple embeeded browes, and through my own failure and reading other posts, I know this can't be down with an embeeded browse. I've tried it with a single browse with buttons to change filter, and that works, but it just isn't what we want. I then tried it with a list box and this gives us the functionality we need, but the performance is very slow as every time the form reloads it takes 30-90 seconds to rebuild the list box. The rest of the application's performace is very quick, so I don't beileve this is a hardware / network issue.

More specifically, the table is called workorder, and contains a field called status as well as number, customer name, and and other information. The field called status can contain the value of "Checked In", "Started", "On-Hold", or "Completed". I would like to have for frames or other "blocks" on the same from that list all the records where each on of the obove values. That is a list of all workorders checked in, all those started etc.

Any suggestions on a way to do this that will perform better that a list box and not have the filtering limitations of a browse?

    Thanks for any ideas.

Re: Multiple Browes with Same Table

    Is this correct;
There are three states of Status value, you want three browses, one for each state?

    Here's how
In the parent table of the form add three fields, the same type and length as the status field, in each one put each of the three status codes. Make three child table links to workorder and combine the main linking field (if there is one) with the newly added status fields, one for each. You place all three on the form and will have three instantly updated browses.

You are correct, and thank you. I never thought of that approach. I'll give it a try. I am fearful though that even with the 3 seperate fields that since we are still still looking at the same records in table that the filters will not work. Currently it is a flat table, so your idea might work if make the additional table.

The marvel is that you wont need filters.
If it is a flat table then create a new table - use it for a form master only. Give it one record, three fields and populate them.
Make a set - one to many for three instances of the workorder table
When you make the browses they are automatically filtered.

OK that sounds interesting. I'll have to give it a try. Thank you very much.
