Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Please advise!!!!

Did you want to block everyone from logging in for a few days, or block individual users from logging in?

Everyone Maybe you could help but the idea is the clients I have we support them 100% server and all but if they want to get on there own server they can basically cut me off and have free software if they dont give us credentials to log into there server to avoid this I want to be able to have an way to disable ppl from logging into there site after a certain amount of days so they always need me so they cant just get away with free software ..

Ah the plot thickens Is this for a web application Because I don't see how someone could take your software and put it on their own server Do you mean that you build web software and then deliver it to them and they are supposed to publish to your server But they could cheat and publish to their own server cutting you out?

          Re: Please advise!!!!

Sort of We build the software and publish it to a server we provide for them so we still have total control we can log on and turn the app server on and off which allows them to actually get into there site .. but if they have there own sever we cant log into it unless they give us credentials so we cant stop them from logging into the site basically they have control of the server and the app server now ..so just incase this happens is there a way to lock them out for example every 20 days clear there passwords from the web security so they cant successfully log-in and they will need us to republish the security in order for them to log -in again so there for they will always need us because after the 20 days they will not be able to get into there systems unless we reset them..

There might be a better way, but you could have the login run a function to check for a file with an encrypted value related to the date expiration and force them out if they are past due. Requires xbasic coding ability though.

                Re: User Lockout- Please Advise!

I agree with Peter, you should not need to alter or erase their password, you should instead have xbasic code that fires after they login but before they get to any logged in page. Right on the login page you can have code similar to this that will intercept their access:

                <%a5
if eval_valid("submitbutton") ' means they pressed the Login button
if eval_valid("userid") ' means they have a value in the Username/Userid field
...code to lookup their subscription period to see if they need to replenish their account
...if they are paid up, let them continue
...if they are not paid up, use response.redirect("logout.a5w") where the logout.a5w page would log them out, and show a message telling them to call your office, etc.
...although I said "call the office above" you really should have an automatic way for them to reset their account
                end if
                end if
                %>

You might have to hire someone. There is no off the shelf code that I am aware of. It might not even be feasible. Even a function encrypted in an aex file would presumably be called from an a5w page (login or otherwise). If they control the site, they can modify the a5w page w. notepad or similar. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it would take some thought.

By the way DJ, when you post a question, post it in ONE forum only, whichever form is most appropriate. You posted this same question in at least four places and the moderators had to delete the other three.

No problem. You use the forum that matches your copy of Alpha Five. If you are using Version 10, use this forum, if Version 11 the use the forum for version 11. Versions are different, so that helps us know what will or won't work in a given case.
