Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Close "Working" window after displaying pdf report/letter

    I have built a button built by action javascript to print a letter. When I click the button on the grid, the pdf letter displays. If I close adobe and go back to the form, the working popup box is still there. To close it, I have to know to click off on the grid somewhere. How can this automatically close itself?

    IE9 and Chrome 25.0

    In Chrome I had to go to chrome://plugins/ and disable Adobe PDF plug-in. I have Adobe Pro installed and not Reader so I can't find the setting to correct with IE9.

      I have the same issue, and maybe one other.
      1) When the report is to be printed, it does not appear in a pdf window; rather, a dialog prompts to save the file, and then you can print it from the PDF window that opens when you click on the downloaded file. So, can the report be made to appear without having to save the download first?
      2) When you do open the report, the original window, which says "working", never closes, even though I put the following javascript in the set up wizard "after execute javascript" to set up printing the report:
      Code:
      //get a pointer to the window object
      var wObj = {Dialog.Object}.getWindow('MYWINDOW');
      wObj.close();
      Should I put some other code there, and is this process not functioning correctly, as you must first download the PDF before seeing it?

        If you do an ajax callback after downloading the pdf you can close the window by doing something like this

        Code:
        function_Name = "{dialog.Object}.closeContainerWindow('A5dlg1');"
        A5dlg1 is the id of the window, you can use firebug to confirm the ID. The problem is that sometimes that ID changes. I'm trying to figure out how to force a specific name to the window but I can't get it to stick.

        ***The other problem that I've run into with reports is that, for some users, the pdf shows in the window on the screen and others it is automatically downloaded. For the automatically downloaded pdf I can't get the default A5dlg1 to close the loading window. This might change with a specific ID name though.

          This is not a very elegant solution, but it works.
          Create a div using this code and an id number of your choice
          Code:
          <Div id ="123">
          </div>
          Put this code in one of the grid's free from edit regions; in my application I chose to the right of the grid, which is usually off screen. Make the size of the iframe 1 px x 1 px in the "target iframe style" property. Uncheck the "Can hide target div" box.
          Basically, this will make the "working" window invisible for all practical purposes. The working window will be closed when the grid is closed, but it really does not matter if it is not closed.
          P.S. For some reason the changes would not "stick" until I checked the "Can hide target div" box, saved the component and published it. Then I unchecked the box, republished and it worked ok???

            The above is not a good solution, as it only works with Firefox. Chrome and Internet Explorer display the report in the pop up window, as expected. If you hide the div, as suggested above, then the report does not appear.
