Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    hello

are you looking for something other than the usual copy paste shortcuts? (ctl-c, ctl-v on pc) (cmd-c cmd-v on mac)
    thanks for reading

Re: How do I copy a field value from a record and paste it onto another field when I start a new record

First I want to thank you for helping.
      Yes.
I have a table that collects vehicle mileage information... So everytime the same vehicle comes in for maintenance, I have to log the mileage reading, then base on that information, I need to change the font color as a mean of setting an alert.

      Here is the run down:
      date1 -> MileageP=500, alert=false
      date2 -> MileageC=1300, alert=true (the difference of MileageP from date1 and MileageC >300)
date3 -> MileageC=1500, alert=false (the difference of {MileageC from last visit and MileageC}, which is 1500-1300=200, therefore is false)

As you see here, MileageP is always the mileage reading from the last service visit, and MileageC is the current reading. This is the reason I need to copy the value from last reading so I can compare them and set the alert. I've scouted the entire Alpha Sports sample and the message board, and I just couldn't find anything similar to my scenario... Any suggestion on how I should proceed? Thanks

        hello

        I am new to Alphasoftware
first of all I want to direct you to better way to ask questions, since alpha deals with many variables as in databases and presentation objects.
when you ask any question please include
1> dbf or sql as backend.
2> grid or dialog as front end
3> desktop or web as medium of presentation
you will get lot of answers, since there are people dealing with that segment mostly.

I am going to assume it is web (you are asking questions on the web side), dbf backend, and grid for entry data (dialog will be nicer) and if they are correct then
it is not that difficult to do.
simple look up function will do.
        design you service_table as follows
        id numeric auto increment
        vehicle_id numeric
        date date
        mileage_C numeric
        mileage_P numeric
alert logical or character depending on how you like the alert
.....rest of the fields you need

        design your vehicle_table as follows
        vehicle_id numeric auto increment
        mileage numeric
...rest of the fields you need.

then on the grid for the vehicle_id leave that as text box and use lookup then fill in vehicle information and the mileage_p
then define alert as calculated value to be true if mileage difference is > 300

          Hi Gandhi,
Thanks for the suggestion of using a lookup
I am working on it and I believe it will work.

PS. It was nice of you making a suggestion on how to post questions in the right message board
