Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Tick disappears from Checkbox on Read Only Grid

    Hi,

    I have a read only grid and one of the fiels has a checkbox on it which the user can click on and the tick disappears from the checkbox. The ticks comes back when I reload the grid but I just find it annoying.

    How do i stop this happening.

    Thanks

    Chris

    The data in the grid cannot be changed if the grid is read only! Change the grid to editable, or define the grid to have an editable detail section where the user clicks on a button/hyperlink/row to bring up the detail section and adits the data there

      Hi Lance,

      Thanks for the reply.

      I think I may have confused you.

      The Grid is read only which is what I want, but when Itick on the the checkbox which obviously on a read only grid you wouldn't do the tick disappears. It doesn't delete it from the record as when I refresh the page it reapperas.

      Thanks

      Chris

          I have been handling the same issue by putting 1=2 in the Enable Expression property for the field. This disables the checkbox on client side so user cannot click in it.

            Carol you really are the King - Thanks very much for the tip.

            Exactly what I wanted - I would like that to standout as completed amongst other incomplete records - how would I format it to say a red colour based on it being ticked.

                Carol - That is fantastic and just what I was looking for.

                I ahd tried that in the Field itself but it hadn't work so I am really grateful for the video and the help that you have given me.

                Thanks

                  Re: Tick disappears from Checkbox on Read Only Grid

                  Put this in the onMouseUp event and the state will not change and you don't have to disable the control.
                  Code:
                  if (this.checked == 1)
                  {
                  this.checked = 1;
                  }
                  else
                  {
                  this.checked = 0;
                  }

                    Frank,

                    That doesnt seem to work as I can tick and untick the box.

                    Presumably I just put ti in as Text Mode.

                    Tnaks

                      Yes as Text Mode in the OnMouseUp event of checkbox. Not sure of why it does not work for you. It works in my grid.

                        Re: Tick disappears from Checkbox on Read Only Grid

                        Wow, you learn something new all the time here. I had no idea you could use 'this' followed by a dot and some property like that.
                        Anyway, I think that since we don't want the user to change what is in the check box, the code should be changed a little (like below.
                        So, if a user clicks in a check box that is zero, it will switch to 1, so we want to quickly change it back to zero if it is one OnMouseUp (after they click).

                        Code:
                        if (this.checked == 1)
                        {
                        this.checked = 0;
                        }
                        else
                        {
                        this.checked = 1;
                        }

                          Hey Carol,
                          Just watched your screencast and also loved your solution.

                          You haven't come across a solution since then for the greyed out checkbox yet have you? I am using your "1=2" trick for disabling the checkbox, but hate having it greyed out and being more difficult to see.

                          Whoops, didn't read down further, but now see how to fix the enable problem.
