Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Frabk,

Tried that - no luck. Once they disappear, I can't get them back no matter what tab I click.

I think this thread is out of order..

What I am suggesting is that you check the current version of dot net framework on your machine. I included a link in an earlier post on how to do that. If you browse to your Framework directory and compare the version with the ones in my screenshots your framework should be up to date. If you right click on the framework directory and click properties your properties should match mine. My dot net framework is under c:\windows\Microsoft.NET.

Have you sent your information in to Alpha Five? If you haven't, please do. I'm running out of options here for things to try, and more information will help them figure it out.

                          Frank,

Is that from your Windows 7 64 bit machine? Are you on Windows 7 Professional?

Here's my dot net, clearly different from yours:

                            And the full update:

1 - My V11 works correctly in Safe Mode and in Safe Mode, Network - but so far unsuccessful otherwise.

2 - Fixit finds no problems to fix

3 - My computer dude remoted in and saw some errors that had him reinstall MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable, which fixed some of the problems at first, but they came right back with a reboot. The fact that there was a temporary reprieve may be a clue, but I don't know what to make of it.

                            4 - I've run MSConfig and stripped off anything non-essential - hasn't fixed it.

They've said one prior user with this issue had a reinstall of Windows 7 cure it, but I'm saving that as a last resort. Just because it worked for one doesn't mean it will work for all, because it could have been a conflict with other software that they either didn't reinstall or that had some corruption originally. So, I could very well go through all that pain for naught.

So - big sigh - I've blown pretty much a full day on this with no solution in sight.

                              Frank - I have IE9

Frank - I know nothing about dot.net so I will need a little more info if you could

Wendy - I get erratic behavior re seeing files or not in the panel. I just opened v11, and there are all my components. But, as soon as I go to a5w pages, they will all .... yep, they all disappeared. I am not quite sure what to report as a bug that is different than what you have reported. Tell me what I can contribute and I will do it. :)

This is the most frustrating .............

Send all you system info to [email protected]. Send screen shots of your program list, the Programs and Processes tabs of your Task Manager, all your system specs, etc. They're thinking at this point that it's most likely some other software or service conflicting with A5 - something that's altered or is overriding the Windows Explorer.

Describe the behavior as you have - and also please check if:

1 - You are able to use New from the file menu. I cannot, can't type a name for a new file into the dbx) and

2 - if you can use Open from the File menu. I cannot, I can browse and see files, but clicking to select one has no effect.

I also have your problem with controls not being consistently visible in the Web Projects Control Panel.

I've dealt with sneaky and stubborn problems like this in other software. The key is to provide as much clear and specific information as possible, which is where having two of us with a total of 3 machines affected comes into play.
