Passing a variable

Could swear this should be fairly easy.

Attempted to follow Bob Moore's idea here:

But I just get an error message caused by the "inline javascript". (Error vanishes when I comment it out.)

The only thing I am putting in to the inline javascript window (for an action button) is

v_routeid={Grid.object}._getValue('G','ROUTEID',{Grid.RowNumber});

Here is what I am trying to do.
I have 3 grids I am working with. All backed by MySQL.
The first simply records the name of a route. So it has 3 fields. ClientID, RouteID (autonum), and RouteName.
Next I have the sub grid with 5 fields. RouteID, RouteSubID (autonum,) Order, LocID, and LocationName. The final field is unbound via a select statement.

My third grid is a searchable map that is opened up with an action button. It has checkboxes, and I will be using this to populate the 2nd grid. (I will be using the method shown by Steve Workings in Xbasic for the Web.) I really only need to pass one field from this grid, but I also need to pass the RouteID from the first grid, and cannot figure out how to pass this information.

I have attempted a select statement for the third grid, but then it filters out all the locations because there is nothing in the 2nd grid yet, and often will not be. Preferably I would like to reverse this action, and filter out anything that is already in the 2nd grid.

I have thought of using a session variable, but not sure it that is appropriate, or a good practice in this instance.

Passing the variable is important. Being able to filter the grid would be nice, but not as important. But I keep thinking there must be a simple way of doing both.

Using the above method, I kept getting errors, so finally I tried it in v10.5, and no errors. So I thought it might be a bug. Apparently it isn't, and the method is not supposed to work due to the Grid.RowNumber being unavailable. So for anyone searching on this, the above linked video will work, but you will need to simply change it to something like:

var rowNum = {Grid.object}._selectedRow;
v_routeid = {grid.object}.getValue('G','ROUTEID',rowNum);
