Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Problem linking to SQL Server

Have downloaded Airports SQL Server database from Gooogle Mapping Video. Extracted zip, which created airports.bak file. Trying to create a new gird using the Airport SQL file. When I go to build connection string using SQL Server, there is a field for database, but nothing is there. When you connect to Access SQL it lets you go through directories to find Northwind database. Where do I put Airports.bak so connection can find it? First time connectioning to SQL Server database. Using MySQL.

    Ken,
arpoits.bak is a backup file from de airports datebase running under SQLSERVer you have to restore the backup to it's orginal state.
Use MS Studio 2008 RC2 < you to have install SQLEXPRESS on your machine to restore the database>

      Eric,

Thanks. I thought it was a backup with BAK extension. I have SQLExpress installed but I can not get it connected. Keeps giving me an error regarding remote connection. Gone through the instructions for setting up remote connection but still get same error msg. I have MS Studio installed so I will see if that works to restore.

Re: Problem linking to SQL Server

Is your SQL express on your development PC where you have Alpha installed? If not check your firewall settings & make sure if IP protocol is enabled in SQL Express.
If installed on your development machine check if IP protocol is enabled.
connect to localhost\instance name (probably SQLEXPRESS)

Re: Problem linking to SQL Server

SQL Express is on development PC. Firewall is controlled by Norton Security and I have it turned off. IP is enabled. I had downloaded instructions on setting up remote connections and followed to a T, as it is noted everywhere that it is not set on default install. When I attempt tp connect. the Server Type is Database Engine, Server Name Name is SQLEXPRESS, and Authorization is Windows Authorization. Suring initial installation I did get a .Net error message but siad I could continue. That may be my problem. I probably should un-install .Net and SQL Server and re-install .Net and SQL server, but always fear it may affect Alpha Five V11.

I really have no use for SQL Server at this point as I have MySQL installed along with Toad, which Zebra supports. I just may need an AlphaADO connection to it for some projects. If I can build a connection to a SQL Server file without actually having it SQL Server installed, that is all I need.

I installed SQL Express locally, but I can't get it to run. Can someone please take the airports.bak file, and give me a mysql .sql file for the creation and insert of tables/records?
