Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Adding New User

    Hi all

I am trying to create a 'add new user' page where an administrator can add the new users details

I have so far been able to accomplish this as far as I can sucessfully add the userid, password, redirect page, and group.

I am trying to add the fields for security question, security answer, and an extra field for companyid

When I add these fields to the component they show up on the form but the data does not get added to the table.

I am at a loss on how to go about getting these fields to work

    ?a5ws_user_file_field_list()
    = Guid
    Password
    RedirPage
    Userid

Any help regarding this will be appreciated

    Thanks

    Peter

    Re: Adding New User

I am interested in this as well. Although better in V11 I still find it strange that you have to do more or less any code for user management, I guess there is no systems without security...

    There should be forms for
1 self registration (with options of approval by admin)
2 admin registration (with options for different security rules)

Not really relevant to your post...sorry...

        Robert,

You have a good point. Have you entered your idea in Ideascale ? http://alphasoftware.ideascale.com/

PS: Looking at your name I think you are an international developer (non US) Would you mind indicating your country in your profile ? It will help you and others when dealing with issues that may have to do with regional settings for example. Just your country is OK. Thx

          Re: Adding New User

The new V11 dialog component includes templates to allow registering new users and editing existing users. When you create a new dialog, you can select one of the prebuilt templates and modify them for your particular configuration. There are a series of videos covering the dialogs here.

Thanks, I have seen this pdf before and I will probably be able to make it work. But the document kind of proves my point in itself. In a software that should be easy to develop (which probably is A5s strongest point) one of the most used features demands much knowledge of going thru a pdf found somewhere out on the internet. To become really user friendly I think A5 should focus on the most fundamental features first and continue with details afterwards (like sorting within a repeating section, which is a great feature but maybe not so fundamental).

            Still love alpha though...
