Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Refresh problems - using dialog for adding/editing a grid

    Hi
I am using a dialog component in order to add/edit records in a grid.
    Setup is as follows:
Grid is connected to a MS SQL backend. It's a readonly grid of course.
My first field in the grid (OrderID) is setup as a Link. In the onClick event i added the Action "Open a Dialog component to edit a Grid record..." and setup all the required stuff, as per Selwyn's video. I also setup the dialog to close immediately upon submit.
I also added an Action button to the grid in order to create a new record.

    Problem 1:
When editing the record (by clicking the link), dialog appears, i fill-in the data which is properly saved in the DB, but when coming back to the grid, the grid data is not refreshed to reflect the new changes.

    Problem 2:
My grid data has a specific order, when clicking on the Add new record, record gets added, and this time, when coming back to the grid i can see the added record, but it's not ordered in the right position (it's just in the bottom line)

I guess both issues are more or less related, probably need to add some refresh command somewhere

    Thanks
    Jaime

Re: Refresh problems - using dialog for adding/editing a grid

I have a similar issue. I have a grid and I am using a dialog to insert/update records. The grid refresh works great when I "EditExistingRecord", but when I launch the dialog using an ActionScript button to add a new record, the grid does not refresh. The record is added to the database, but the grid doesn't show the new record. I am thinking I need to add some kind of inline javascript to the submit button to refresh the grid, but it seems to me that the Action Button with Action Script seems like it should automatically do a grid refresh similar to the refresh done when I update an item in the grid.

I might have found a way to address this issue. When using a dialog to add/edit a record in the grid, I have been able to force the grid to refresh after the record has been inserted/updated by adding a grid refresh event to the "Window Javascript Events" - "On Hide" event in the Action Javascript "Open Dialog to Edit the Current Record..." dialog box. I am enclosing some screen shots....Window Javascript.jpgWindow Javascript 2.jpg

Re: Refresh problems - using dialog for adding/editing a grid

This solved my problem. Thank you for the post. To make this very clear, the {grid.Object}.refresh(); call should be added the Grid, not the UX.

Open the Action Button Editor an choose the button or link that launches the UX.
Edit the Action associated with your Open a UX component to Edit Current Record in Grid or add a new Record Action
In the Action Javascript - Open a UX Component dialog, Scroll down to the Window Javascript Events section, where you can find the onFocus event handler.
              add {grid.Object}.refresh();

I got it to work via a call back from the UX, but this is very clean solution.
