Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Notice: If you are getting 501 errors, read this

In keeping with my trend of posting bugs here (as I rarely get replied to when I email staff), here is another one.

If you are getting 501 Method not implemented errors, and you are using an SSL connection, try turning HTTP keep alives off. It was the only thing that worked for me.

I figured it out after I read of some bug reports from 4 years ago mentioning this problem was solved. Evidently it has re-appeared in v11.

    Cheers

I appreciate the advice--getting the same error. Did you ever get response from Alpha on this?

I did, and they say it has been patched, although I haven't had time to do thorough testing. Are you running a version newer than say, a month ago?

I'd also recommend you submit a bug report.

Please let us know what you find.

      Thanks

Same problem here, however Alpha has always responded to me and has worked along side me to solve what problems they could duplicate.

I have found that a server restart usually resolves this problem, especially if you make any structural changes to your data

The conflict with SSL and Keep-Alive was definitively fixed in Build 2497_3888, released on March 10, 2012. If you are experiencing any 501 Method Not Implemented errors using this build or newer, please contact me directly so that we can investigate the cause ASAP. As of now though, there have been no such reports.

I am having them using this version

              Alpha Five Application Server/11.0 Build/2506-3890

Once in about 5 times using file upload.

I close the upload dialog and reopen try again and it works.

And I am not using ssl.

Lenny, I just rolled our app out using 2503_3890 and we're getting these messages in Javascript alert boxes inconsistently but frequently all through our application. I am using SSL and we have lots of little javascript canDetailViewSubmit sorts of message boxes designed into the application, but I didn't know if Chad's issues were the same as mine and theoretically fixed in the (still-coming?) pre-release or not.

Thanks Lenny. Per my personal testing with the previous patch yesterday and the pre-release today, testing of which both were somewhat limited but similar in nature, it's my take that this version may be better(?). That said, I'm still getting this message occasionally, and it still seems to stop whatever process was in process--opening a detail view, a detail view closing after deletion, uploading a file, etc. It remains inconsistent and unpredictable--in one component I got it the first detail view I opened and the sixth, but then couldn't reproduce it in that component; it happened the first record I deleted in another component but not the second; and I uploaded 2 files successfully in another component before getting it on the third. I'm not aware of anything I'm doing differently in each instance.

I hadn't installed any patches between the 3-13-12 one and this pre-release, but just FYI something between them broke (at least) one of my reports with this error message.
