Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Tabbed UI - Link to new pane without a button?

    I need to have a field link to a new grid on a new pane in a Tabbed UI. I can do it with a button. I can do it with Javascript. What I can't do is have the field look and act like a link, with hover behavior, the cursor instead of pointer, etc.

    Does anybody have any tips?

    I feel that the behaviour of the "Link" control type could be a bit better. But... more on that in a minute.

    To get what you want try this...

    In the In-line style
    Code:
    text-decoration: underline; cursor: pointer;
    You can go further and change any other aspect of the label with the following.

    In the onMouseOver event
    Code:
    $('GRID1.TD.R' + {Grid.RowNumber} + '.PRODNAME').style.color = 'red';
    In the onMouseOut event
    Code:
    $('GRID1.TD.R' + {Grid.RowNumber} + '.PRODNAME').style.color = 'black';
    Using the Link control type would be perfect, except for navigation. You have an option to Prompt before navigate away from page. If this is checked and you click a link then you get a prompt to confirm you want to leave the page or stay on the page. If you stay, then another tab is opened. So, this is just what you want, except for the prompt. If you uncheck this option then you get a whole new page. A new option would be handy in this case "Don't prompt, but stay on the page". But, you can get everything done anyway.

      David,

      Boy - that OnMouseOver was right there in front of me, now wasn't it? "Doh, I knew that".
      But, I'm not sure I would have known exactly how to do it - so thanks for both.

      And you've confirmed what I thought - link is not the way to go. Thanks for that also.

        Well, and except that there's no option for a Tabbed UI Pane (not a browser tab)...

        I'm not sure I understand. Here's what I'm doing - which doesn't ask any questions, just opens a new page in a new tab.

        What option do you wish we had?

          Aha!

          I sent a suggestion in (to have Tabbed UI Pane be an option in Link), and got this response back:

          "instead of putting in a control and then setting its control type to link just click the insert... hyperlink at the bottom of the field list and insert a hyperlink. then you will have the option that you need."

          So simple, as was right there in front of me. "Doh".

          - Hyperlink
          - Hide the original field
          - Javascript - OnClick
          - Set the sort field and Hyperlink field title.
          - Done

            Re: Tabbed UI - Link to new pane without a button?

            Hello, my name is Jose, and I used the solution proposed in this tread to solve an issue similar to the one described by Wendy. Thanks for posting the solution Wendy. However, I would now like to expand the discussion and see if you have experienced the same problem I am having.

            I have a tabbed UI with one option on the menu on the left, 'Search for Clients'. When I click on it, a new tab is opened which contains a search form and a grid displaying the results; we will call Tab#1. I added a hyperlink to the grid which opens the selected client in a new tab within the tabbed ui (as described above); we will call this Tab#2. Works great. However, if I return to the search form and conduct another search and click on the hyperlink to select a different client, a new tab is not opened. Instead, it attempts to load the new client in the existing tab, Tab#2, and I am expecting it to open it on new tab, Tab#3, and so on.

            I am not very much experienced with javascript, however I was able to determine by reading Javascript for the OnClick action, that the tab to be opened is tied to the rowNum of the client selected. How could I modify this to always open a new tab? Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

            This app is for a front desk in which the clerk may be servicing multiple clients at a time. Therefore, I need multiple client tabs to be opened. The clerk may need to look at the information for a client, when another client comes in. He/she may do a search in the search form, open the information for the second client without closing the information of the first client.

            Thanks,

            Jose
