Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Grid Action Button, Submit new grid data before running button code?

    I have an action button in a grid that I am using to redirect the user to a new page and do some custom xbasic processing on the grid. The standard grid submit button is used to save the gird data as normal. The problem is that the action button I created can be clicked even if new data is entered in the grid (is dirty) thus deleting any changes the user has made at that time. I am trying to add a grid submit to the action javascript onclick event of the action button I created to force a grid update before redirecting to my custom page but am having little luck.

    This is the code I am using in the inline javascript of an action javascript action but it errors out with a bunch of script errors
    Code:
    {Grid}.submitGridPart();
    I assume I am using the wrong code to submit the grid or missing something basic here.

    You can use a show/hide expression like this, then the button will only show after the record has been saved: data.rowNumber > 0

    I am trying to add a grid submit to the action javascript onclick event of the action button I created to force a grid update before redirecting to my custom page but am having little luck.

    I don't understand what you are trying to do here?

      I was trying to add a grid submit action to the action button i created so the user would not have to click the submit button, hopefully that makes sense.

        If all you want to do is redirect to another page after submitting, look in the grid's properties for that action. You don't need a custom button to do that.

          I do not want to always redirect after submit only to preform this one action that is only sometimes done. That is why I created a custom button for it.

            So the custom button redirects somewhere else at the user's discretion. If that is so, try what I said in post #2.

              I tired using the enable expression "grid.isDirty = FALSE" which partially works the only problem is it does not disable the control until another field is selected after a change, so a user could change one value on the grid and still be able to click the custom action button I added. This is true also with the show hide expression also.

              The action button I added is used to process the contents of a grid and output them to a custom text file that is done on the A5 server side and the user does not handle the output file. This is used to interface with a really old legacy system that only accepts text files. This is only done when the user wants to update the data to the legacy system, the submit button is renamed "save for later" so the user can save the data in the grid and work on it later before submission final submission.

                I don't mean to be repetitive, but if you want to disable a control, you can.

                Have you tried: grid.rowState = 'view' in your enable or show'hide?

                  That did the trick! Thanks. I was able to find the list of show/hide expressions (below) and most are self explanatory but I do not know what a rowstate of 'view' means, is this documented somewhere?

                  I also was able to get my original method working so the client side hide is not needed, I had the submit code wrong. I am setting the javascript onclick action of the extra action button to submit the grid before a redirect to new page with action javascript. Here is the correct inline javascript to submit a grid
                  Code:
                  {grid.object}.submitGridPart();

                    It's not exactly documented, but here is where I found it...

                    Glad it's working for you!
