Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

What need to be replace in the url instead of local host either IP Address or ABC.com

    Hi,

    I am using http://localhost/login.a5w.
When I have published it in the server, it is still http://localhost/login.a5w
instead I want the url as http://ABC.com/login.a5w.

So, Do I need to change the
either localhost to ABC.com or localhost to IP Address in the source code before publishing in the server.

    Please provide information.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Suvarchala.

    Suvarchala,

This has nothing to do with publishing. Your url points to the server's IP address. The Alpha WAS (on the server) monitors port 80 (typically) for incoming requests. The WAS also points to the server's web root. A request comes into the server (e.g. someone typing in the url in their browser, or someone submitting a query in a grid), the WAS points to the webroot and returns data (HTML) to the user. Make sense?

Or, to answer your question another way, just type in your browser: http://abc.com/login.a5w

Note : "login" should be on an a5w page called index.a5w

      Hi Peter,

      There is an issue.
Actually, I got a port on Remote Server, where they have provided me a default web page, using the url,
like http://www.ABC.com/login.a5w , here I am able to open the default page provided by them.
Where as I want to replace it with my login page by publishing.

So Could you please suggest me the way.

      Thanks & Regards,
      Suvarchala.

        Hi Suvarchala,

You need to setup dns to point at the ip address of the remote server.
This is usually done by adding an A record or a CNAME record.
I would expect the help desk of your domain registrar or of the company
hosting your remote server would help you set this up.

            Suvarchala,

You said they provided you with a default page. Is that an Alpha Five ".A5W" page?

Unless your hosting company is ZebraHost or WebJogger (who specialize in Alpha Five) then your default page is probably being delivered by IIS.

Do you have remote access to the server, can you actually get to the server's desktop? Does the server have a Windows operating system?

Re: What need to be replace in the url instead of local host either IP Address or ABC

              Hi Steve Wood,
I am not sure about the default page. But it gave a default url http://ABC.com/login.a5w
Yes, My hosting company is ZebraHost.
Yes, It is default page has been delivered by IIS.
Yes, I have remote access to the server.
Yes, I can get to the server's desktop.
I am not sure about the operating system the server is used.

So, by using the IP address of the server i am able to login like this http://111.xxx.xxx.xxx/login.a5w
but I have to view my login in page using this url like http://ABC.com/login.a5w

So, I don't understand, Where did I have made mistake. Instead of publishing it as http://ABC.com/login.a5w it is publishing it as http://111.xxx.xxx.xxx/login.a5w
              Please provide information.

              Thanks & Regards,
              Suvarchala.

Re: What need to be replace in the url instead of local host either IP Address or ABC

If it's ZebraHost, then you are fine!

Since you are hitting an A5W page, its not IIS, it is your Alpha Five web server. So you are fine there too.

Now, regarding this So, I don't understand, Where did I have made mistake. Instead of publishing it as http: //ABC.com/login.a5w it is publishing it as http: //111.xxx.xxx.xxx/login.a5w. Please follow what Gregg and Peter said. You need to contact your ISP and modify the DNS record to point your IP address to your desired URL. Your ISP is wherever you got your IP address. If that is ZebraHost, then you need to ask them. DNS can be difficult if you are new to it, have the ISP person do it for you.

                  Thanks Steve Wood.

I will check with Zebra Host.
