Passing Values to a Dialog from Parent Grid

I have a Dialog component opening up from a Grid.

I am using inline-javascript to pass Parent Grid Info to a Dialog:


var obj = {id: '{Grid.object}', row: '{Grid.RowNumber}' }; // reference to parent grid

Referred from Video D37: Looks like _executeEvent method does not exist as i checked the Dialog Object Methods and it was not in there.

My Question is:

How do i reference the Parent Grid Object in a client -side events of a Dialog Object?

If I understand what you'd like to do, I think you may have your Action Scripts backwards. You have a grid, then you want to open a Dialog and set some fields on that Dialog with values from the Grid.

Take out the _executeEvent stuff, you don't need it.

Run the in-line Javascript stuff first, setting your window vars with the Grid obj etc.

Then, open the Dialog with an Action. When the Dialog runs, the onRenderComplete will fire and pickup the Window vars and set the values.

Have a look at Video 15 as well. Going to go try this now to make sure.

Better yet, if you're setting vars at the Grid side, just set the vars you want with the data you want directly... no need to involve the grid at all when in the dialog.

You mean setting session variables at the grid? In fact i need 5-6 fields to put together and calculate a NewInvoice Amount to show up on a Dialog.

To further explain, I am tracking changes in invoice and if somebody tries to update Let's say Surcharge,discount,Misc. charges,Prepaid...It should calculate a new Invoice amount . Now my Dialog only needs Old Invoice amount and newly calculated invoice amount from the grid But at the same time I need all those field values i.e. Surcharge,discount,Misc. charges,Prepaid,revision#... along with a Calculated result variable in a Dialog for Logging purposes.

I just saw array xbasic variable this morning in pre-release notes. I was thinking i could use that as a session variable to pass all the info. needed.
