Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Pass value from Grid to Dialog that is bound to a different table

Sorry for the repetitive post but for the life of me I cannot get this to work. For two days I've gone through the forum and watched videos till my eyes are blood shot...I even made popcorn I've watch so many videos (no joke).

I have a Grid that is bound to my "Transaction" table. Primary Key is TRANSACT_ID. (dB is MySQL 5.5)

I have Dialog that is bound to my "Limits" table. Primary Key is LIMIT_ID but the table also contains a field TRANSACT_ID.

Note: This currently works from Grid "Transaction" to Grid "Limits" where utilizing a button I can pass the values and add data. I've recreated the "Limit" grid as a dialog that is cleaner and easier to use.

On my "Transaction" Grid I've created a button that uses an Action "Open a Dialog Component". http://screencast.com/t/aQKOmo5T

My understanding is that when you click the button it should pass the value of (in my case) TRANSACT_ID to the dialog. When you click the button it opens the Dialog but the result says "Record Was Not Found." When browsing the table the record is clearly there. AND again it works Grid to Grid.

Does this function only work when both the Grid and Dialog are bound to the same table?

    Thanks
    Joe

Just tried this and it seems to be working ok. I have a grid... based on an Orders table. The key is OrderId and ProdId. I have a button defined... showing in each row. The button click event run an Action Javascript event - Open a Dialog Component. This action asks for your Dialog and you can set the key to be passed. My dialog is bound to the Products table. When I click the button my Product dialog opens and the correct record is displayed.

I see you have Use cached dialog checked... I think it's checked by default. Try unchecking it. Otherwise it looks the same as mine.

Re: Pass value from Grid to Dialog that is bound to a different table

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a try in the morning.

The original Transaction grid was from 10.5 app. I copied the whole project folder and started testing/building/revising the grids. I'm curious if something got silly when I opened the 10.5 grid in v11. I'll update in the morning...

Going to hurt if I have to rebuild the Transaction grid....

Unfortunately clearing the "use cached grid" check box didn't help. I'm at loss at this point.

I would do a quick test at this point. Build a new grid... couple of fields. Your dialog should be ok because it HAS to be V11 anyway. Try the link with the new Grid and existing dialog and see what happens. Both tables contains your Transact_Id, both are numeric?

Re: Pass value from Grid to Dialog that is bound to a different table

Yes, both are "Numeric" (field type is int in MySQL). I just started to build a test grid. Will update in a bit.

            Thanks again..

Same problem on test Grid. How can I see in Firebug that the button is getting the Transact_Id off of the parent grid?

Same build. The only think I can think of next is to zip your Grid and Dialog and post it here. Give me a few details about your MySQL tables and I'll re-create and try to see what else is going on.

Is it Transaction3 grid? And which Limits dialog? Limitsd? I think that's it.

Walk me through the process. Search first, then what do I need to do. Buttons, etc.

Sorry...yes, Transaction3 grid (2 is production). Limitsd is the dialog component.

                        Thanks

I can't see why, yet,... but for some reason, even though the Transact_Id is correct coming from the Transaction grid, it's going against the Limit_Id in the Limits table. In the Limits table I've added the Transaction_Id as a key, removed the Limit_Id as a key, no matter what I do it goes after the Limit_Id. It's a puzzler.

I've been pulling my hair out all day with this too. I'm going to try building at test dialog and see if it still has the same results. Thank you for all of your help.
