Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Change Radio Button Value in a Dialog

    I am trying to toggle the value of a couple of radio buttons (true/false) using a client side javascript function. I cant find the code to set the value. For example, if I set one radio button to true, I want to set the other radio button to false. The radio buttons are in a frame. Does that matter in how I address the Radio Button? I set up the Radio Buttons as logical and gave one a default value of 1 and the other a value of 0. The function below shows how I try and change the value of a button. Any suggestions as to how to correct this syntax would be appreciated.

    function chgRB()
    {
    {dialog.Object}.setValue('CompanySrch',0)
    }

    I believe the logic is...

    {dialog.Object}.setValue('YourRadioButtonGroup', '0');

    *Don't forget the semicolon.

    Update:

    I tested this with a Button whose onClick event is this:

    Code:
    var cur = {dialog.object}.getValue('RadioButton1');

    if (cur == 0) {
      {dialog.object}.setValue('RadioButton1', '1');
    }  else {
      {dialog.object}.setValue('RadioButton1', '0');
    }
    It toggled the selected radio value every time I clicked the button.

    Update 2:
    OOOH. Logical field. My bad... I don't know. :(

      I found this: http://wiki.alphasoftware.com/Defini...p+++Down+Boxes

      The second blue box states what you're looking for, I think:

      "Note : Logical values are represented by the values "True" and "False". For example, if you wanted to use "Yes" and "No", you could have these entries in the list:

      Yes|True
      No|False"

        Both suggestions above have worked for me. Thank much! However, Sarah, I tried the option outlined in the article and tried to give one of my two options an initial value of "True" so the that the radio button shows that option checked when the page opens and was not successful. I tried all kinds of combinations of punctuation and couldn't get it to initialize as true. Have you ever been able to get a value to open initialized to true, and if so, how?

          Re: Change Radio Button Value in a Dialog

          In the properties for the radio button, there's a "Default value" box. Type "True" or "False" in there (no quotes) to get your initial value. Doing it in code might not work. I did a test where I put the value of the radio group in a text box so I could see what it was. My radio group had two values:

          Yes|True
          No|False

          When I selected "Yes", "true" was printed in my text box. When I selected "No", "false" printed. The value returned from a logical radio group is boolean (as I found out using the typeof function: typeof(x)). However, calling setValue('RadioButton1', true) or setValue('RadioButton1', false) did NOT change the selected radio value! I think this might be a legit problem. I'd suggest you send in a bug report to A5.

            In my output after I typed in True in the default value I went from two to options to 3 radio buttons.

            Originally : Company Last Name (both radio buttons are not checked)
            After: True Company Last Name (and last Name is checked as if true)

            This is all very strange. I think you are correct. It seems like this code is very buggy.

              the formatting got messed up when I sent this. I will try and make this a little clearer:

              In my output after I typed in True in the default value I went from 2 radio buttons to 3 radio buttons.

              True
              Company
              Last Name
              (and last Name is checked as if true)

                Re: Change Radio Button Value in a Dialog

                Did you define your radio buttons with the value mapped? If you don't include the value, it will arbitrarily (though probably predictably) assign True and False:

                Company|True
                Last Name|False

                Default Value : True

                It should appear as this:

                (*) Company
                ( ) Last Name

                if you've set things up properly. Though I don't know about these logical fields...

                  Re: Change Radio Button Value in a Dialog

                  Hmmmm. You should still have 2 radio buttons.

                  On the Design tab over in the properties window for your control, Properties > RadioButton Properties > Choices > <Click Button to Edit>. It will put you in the dialog where you define the value for your radio buttons. That's where you put this:

                  Company|True
                  Last Name|False

                  Save out of that. Then, look at Properties > Field Properties > Default value. Type "True" in Default value. Save.

                    Re: Change Radio Button Value in a Dialog

                    Yes, I set the default value to True and the value map is set as:

                    Company|True
                    LastName|False

                    The output is now:
                    ( ) Company
                    (*) Last Name

                    Still a mystery. Thanks for the help.

                      Never mind. It's not doing what I think it should do. Yeah. Contact A5. They'll probably know more.
