Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report text has gone "invisible"

Oh, it's there alright ... you can drag over where it should be, see the selection area and then copy & paste it into Notepad and it's there, but it is not being displayed in the PDF. Some, not all, headings show up, but they are very dim. Everything is fine in the report preview.

This just started today. Shut down the computer last night, fired up everything this morning and I noticed it when checking out one of the reports. This is happening on the computer where A5 is running as well as two other computers on the same network. All browsers. The remote version on Zebrahost is working just fine. All was working as it should last night before shutting down. This is happening not only in the two projects that I am working on, but as well in the sample apps that ship with A5. It should be noted that some items are showing up, such as an images and some text in an HTML area, but the regular text fields have gone "all white" ... i.e. not visible. Wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary before shutting down, just working on some grid component tweaks (column heading alignments, etc.)

Not sure if this is any help, but I also noted that A5 is not saving the new static images I updated today. Changed a logo that is being used on the grids and tabbed UI, saved it as the same filename, replaced it in the directory, shows up when viewing the localhost (live preview as well). But if I close the database and then re-open it, the previous version of the logo returns. I emptied the cache folder, and browser's caches to no avail. Did a shutdown and cold boot, ran the "repair" on the install, but still this is happening. Thought I would post to see if anyone has suggestions before I do an un-install / re-install.

    Lyle,

That is strange. My only wild guess would be to try changing the cell inline-style to a different font and see if it shows up. Or perhaps even a different colour.

I would have tried something like what you suggest if it had been only the one report and in only one project, but this is occurring in ALL reports in ALL projects, even ones I haven't touched (such as the samples that ship with A5). Along your suggestion, I created a new report in the one project, used the Genie and accepted all the defaults; looks fine in the Designer and everything shows up as it should in the Report Preview. Call it from a button on a grid or A5W page and the same thing ... "invisible"!

Not to hijack my own thread, but "where abouts" in Canada are you (if you don't mind). I have been looking around for an A5 user group in my neck of the woods, but haven't found anything.

I'm in London, ON. A bit far for a get together I'm afraid.

Were all your reports created with the report genie?

Only one was created with the Genie ... a test one for this issue. The others were from scratch with the Free form editor. But this is also occurring with ones that I didn't create myself, the ones that came with A5 behave this was as well.

            Update:

Uninstalled A5v11 and reinstalled. Same issue.

However, I have A5v11 on a second machine (second allowed install, same build) so copied the files over there and all works as it should ... and as it had done on the original machine until yesterday. After a removal and fresh installation, I am completely out of ideas.

For the record, the machine where the issue is occurring is a one month old Lenovo laptop, Pentium B960 2.20GHz, 4GB RAM, Win7 Home Premium 64-bit

The second machine, where all is working as it should, is a Win7 Home Premium 64-bit installation in Fusion 4 (4GB RAM allocated) running on a MacBook Pro, 8GB RAM (physical).

              Update: SOLVED!

As is usually the case, it was a PICNIC issue

The folder names were the same for both the project files and the web root files. As well, there was some "trouble" with where they were located. Created a new, different named web root location, published everything again to this new spot and now as is well again.

I really do need to hit the wiki on how to properly structure the files/folders. Guess it's too many years/sites of Joomla! and WordPress muddling things up
              Cheers!
