Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Total records in grid inside Grid Navigator

    How would I put the total record count inside the Grid Navigator at the bottom of my grid? I can put the total records count at the bottom of the grid, but I'd rather have it in the grid toolbar. Anyone have any suggestions on how to do this? I've attempted permutations of the following:

    {Total_Records}
    {grid.object}._totalRecordsInGrid
    {grid.total_records_row} >>> What would I write to get the tmpl.total_records_row HTML here?

    Thanks.

    I have be searching on how to put a record count on a grid, and I see you were able to put a count on the bottom of a grid. Would you mind explaining how and where you were able to do that.
    Thanks

      Hey Sarah,

      I've no idea what the "magic" placeholder is. However, it's fairly simple to get it done another way.

      I'm going to assume that your working inside the Customize Grid Toolbar Template. If so, you can put something like this anywhere you like the record count to display.

      Code:
      <span id="totRec"></span>
      Now, in your Grid's Server-side Events, onTitlesRender event, put this...

      Code:
      dim tr as c
      tr = e.rtc.recordsInQuery

      e.javascript = "$('totRec').innerHTML = 'Total Records: ' + " + tr
      So... you're setting up a Span Id that you can get to inside the toolbar. Then, in the Server-side events, where you can get at the Total Record count, you shove stuff into that Id.

      Now Selwyn will jump in and say something like "You can use {Total_Record_Magic_Placeholder} instead".

        It's in the grid Properties: Customization > 'Total records' message position. You can specify Above Grid (default), Below Grid, Above and Below Grid, and No Message.

          Admittedly WAY MORE WORK than I anticipated doing for something that already has a placeholder that can be referenced in other grid properties. But your help is appreciated. ;)

          Yes! And BOO! Because if it exists, it is poorly (ie, NOT) documented.

            My javascript knowledge leaves a lot to be desired, but
            a quick look at the source for a grid revealed
            Code:
            GRID1_GridObj._totalRecordsInGrid = 32;
            have you tried {Grid.object}._totalRecordsInGrid; ?

            Worst case, I've wasted a few minutes.
            Best case, we found the answer (which means watching videos at 2am instead of sleeping has benefits).

              I've tried that. I don't think JavaScript is available in the customize grid toolbar template HTML. There are properties I can access that take the form of {grid.<property name>}. If there is one for total records, it eludes me. The variations "{grid._totalRecordsInGrid}" and "{grid.totalRecordsInGrid}" give me property not found errors.

              Thanks for trying, though.
