Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    HTML5 Time type on iPad - how to make grid dirty

    I just installed the pre-release and set a lot of fields to the HTML5 type of Time. Works well on the iPad, but changing the time in a field doesn't make the grid dirty.

    I've tried setting {grid.Object}.isDirty; in the time field's OnBlue and OnChange events to no effect. Anyone know how to achieve this?

    I want to bring this up to the top again. Seems like making a selection with the iPad control should make the field dirty, but it doesn't? At least the Submit button isn't aware of it...

      Re: HTML5 Time type on iPad - how to make grid dirty

      Steve,

      Because of your post I tried the same... and finding the same... the iPad Time control is not making the field/row dirty. I have found a workaround, but no other solution.

      The workaround involves the following, so I don't know if you want to be bothered, 'cause it's not pretty.

      A dummy field in your table and, therefore, on your grid.
      Changing your table field from Time to VarChar. If you need to do anything with this field other than display then it gets troublesome.
      The iPad Time control sets the time when first displayed, for a NULL field, but then the time blanks out... so that's not great. This only happens when the Time field is initially NULL.

      Here's what I did:

      1. Add your dummy field to your table and to your grid. Just a varchar field.
      2. Change your Time field, in your table, to varchar
      3. In the onBlur event of the Time field...

      Code:
      var ct = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','CONDTIME',{Grid.RowNumber});
      {grid.Object}.setValue('G','CONDTIME',{Grid.RowNumber},ct);
      {grid.Object}.setValue('G','DUMMYFIELD',{Grid.RowNumber},'');
      4. In the onFocus event of the Time field...

      Code:
      {grid.Object}.setValue('G','DUMMYFIELD',{Grid.RowNumber},'xxx');
      Basically we're setting the dummy field to something and then nothing just to make sure that any time you get into the Time field, the row goes dirty.

      Then, when you select the time from the iPad time control... get it, and then set it again. This is done for the same reason as the row not getting dirtied... the value is displayed in the field, it just isn't getting in there.

        Re: HTML5 Time type on iPad - how to make grid dirty

        Thanks David. I won't be trying that. My main form that I need to put into the field on Sunday consists almost exclusively of time fields -- maybe 30 of them. I've searched high and low and just don't know how to do this -- I may have to pull the HTML5 type out of that field for next week's implementation which would be quite a shame -- it's a nice improvement otherwise.

          Ouch... yeah... one or two you can live with... but 30 get's a bit much.

          What back end are you using and what's the fieldtype... is it Time?

            MS SQL 2012, time(7)

            I have everything working well, but the HTML5 control addition really adds a very nice touch.

              I what particular way? Visually, performance, both? I ask because I am doing a couple projects that will be used extensively with the iPad.

              Cheers!

                It looks sooooooooooo pretty! Same problem with a Date field... probably with anything "native" to the iPad. Probably just not fully implemented yet.

                  I say more than just attractive, which it is. It's also a terrific time picker -- just very very easy to use plus pretty.

                    Still no solution? Tonight I have to decide whether to undo the HTML5 tags in my app -- we're going in the field with the iPads on Sunday and if the time picker can't make the grid dirty (and it's going to have to, eventually) then I need to pull back.

                      Just a comment. I love the iPad time picker... but...

                      I use the app called Time Master to track project hours, dates, and times. You enter a starting time and ending time for the project piece you're working on, and it calcs the amount of time, per entry. At times, this process drives me nuts. I end up spinning those time picker wheels so much that I curse it after a while. It's a beautiful control, but in this case I wish I could just put in a number of hours. After awhile it's really easy to put in wrong times. Still... there's nothing as pretty.

                        Re: HTML5 Time type on iPad - how to make grid dirty

                        My screen is one with 15 procedures. Each has a start time and and end time. I have buttons to push for each of the start and end times - that makes 30 buttons. Works nicely. When a button is pushed, I disable it so it can't be pushed again.

                        But, it's on an iPad, will be used while standing in water up to chest-deep, and the iPad will probably be passed to a colleague now and then. That means that once in a while, it's a fair certainty that a button will be inadvertently pushed before its' time and therefore the button is disabled and cannot be used again. That means, manual entry.

                        Other forms for the same app have a single time entry, used once every 2-3 hours.

                        All in all, I'd rather have the iPad time picker making the form dirty.
