Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Grid is missing the right side border (What the heck?)

This is sort of funny, but not really since it is supposed to go live today.

I created this simple application for conducting traffic speed surveys, which consists of two grids linked together.

The top grid is the parent, and the bottom grid contains the child records. It works just fine, and last night when I finished it, it looked fine too, both in Working Preview and on the web. I went to bed.

This morning when I opened it up on the web, the right hand side of the child grid was missing! I hadn't changed anything, and have no idea what happened to the right hand side border.

When I look at the grid in Live or Working Preview it is normal, but when viewing it live in the browser, the right side grid border has disappeared.

(See pics below. Left photo is Working Preview, right side is on the web.)

Did gremlins attack my app while I was sleeping? (LOL)

The only thing I can think of is that you have the grid in a container and the container width is fixed or you have a setting in the master template fixing the width of the TD tag that holds the grid.

      Richard -

If it was working properly on the web before, these are the ones that really "getcha"! Did you have a look at it in different browsers and/or on a different computer? Same thing? I have had a similar issue with a tabbed ui main page on the iPad; worked just fine the first couple times; came back a while later, and half the right hand side of the page is not showing!?!?. Haven't looked into that one yet.

      Cheers!

I think the answer is definitely aliens from outer space!

Frank the grid is not enclosed in a frame or container, it's just a straight, simple grid with a couple of fields, but good point to consider.

Lyle that was good too. You are correct in that when I was working on the project I was work, and when I checked it this morning I was at home, so yes they were two different computers. Same browser though, IE 8.0., so theoretically that shouldn't have made any difference, but now the kicker ...........

As a temporary fix, I placed a very thin border around the cell that contains the last field (Linkingkey), which sort of took care of the missing right side border of the entire grid, but it made the cell look a little "puffed out" with that thicker border all around it. Nevertheless it closed the gap so-to-speak. But after reading Lyle's post, I decided to remove the temporary border, log into my work computer remotely, and see if the original right hand side border looked any different on that computer than my one at home.

I viewed it at work and just as last night, it looked like it should, with the grid having the right hand side border complete. Then I viewed it on my home computer again and guess what? Now the border appears on that computer as well!!!

I don't know what to think, but you can clearly see in the screen shots that it wasn't there this morning. Nevertheless, since it's working correctly now, I'll leave it alone.

        Thanks for the comments everyone.

Maybe one day I'll figure it out.
