Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Date related font change

    Hi Guys,
    I have a date field that we use to input the exp date of licenses. Im trying to set up the client side conditional style to show this date as red when the system date is = to or past it.
    i have tried setting it as "field"=>date() and Field=>D_Date() both of which return an error "date" is undefined or D_Date is undefined.
    Needless to say its driving me a little around the bend.
    Any help would be great

    Thanks
    Roland

    Hi Roland,

    You don't mention what you are using for a database so I am not sure this is the same in your case, but I have just tried this on a test app that uses MySQL with the date field being of the DATE type and this is what I entered for the condition:

    field >= now()

    Works for me :)

    Cheers!

      Re: Date related font change

      Dates drive me crazy. There are two areas for Conditional Styles: Display Settings (this is Server-side) and Client Side Properties. I just can't get anything to work under the Server side... such a pain... probably very simple, but it's eludes me. field >= now() results in an error - it doesn't understand now. I get an error putting this into the Client side as well... I don't get it.

      Display Settings is better, but still... I can get OrderDate="01/03/2012" to work... remember that you have to work with text 'cause it's client side. But I can't get the current date in there for testing... that is... without using a function.

      So, put in field >=condDateTest()

      And, in your Javascript Functions put this...

      Code:
      function condDateTest() {

      var currDate = new Date();
      currDay = currDate.getDate();
      currMth = currDate.getMonth()+1;
      currYr = currDate.getFullYear();
      frmtDate = currDay + '/' + currMth + '/' + currYr;
      return frmtDate;

      }
      That works.

        David -

        Not sure why it's not working for you. As mentioned, in this example, the date_hire field is of the DATE type in MySQL and here are screenshots of the result plus the two settings. I just used the first "Conditional style" 'thingy' I saw, and it just worked no muss, no fuss, no code :)

          Just noticed this ...

          Why? This could be why now() is not working. I didn't have to change anything like that in 'Display Settings' ... just used it as it came out of the MySQL table as DATE.
          Cheers!

                Re: Date related font change

                Sometimes you just can't see it, unless you "see" it. Thanks for the images, Lyle. I matched my field and condition to yours... still getting an error. Then I looked again, closely, at your images and realized that my Control Type for my Date is a Textbox... yours is a Label. I changed mine to a label and all is good. It seems a function is required for dynamic date comparisons if the control type is a Textbox. A Static comparison is fine... no function required.

                  Umm ... seems to work just fine with an editable Textbox control too
