Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Set a Session Variable with change of the Search Grid - Drop down Box value?

    Hello all,

    Does anyone know a simple way to set a session variable with change of a Drop down box.

    I have a series of web pages that are filtered by a session variable e.g. "Session.Filter"

    I would like to user to be able to filter grid by the search drop down box, and when they search for a item in grid, it also sets the session variable so when they move to another page the next grid still continues to be filtered by the latest selection, until they change the search to something else?

    I have looked a the on change event for Drop down box, but cant find a action button to set a session variable?

    Thanks.

    Hi Ricky,

    You were so close.

    In the onChange event, just use the Server-side Xbasic option.

    Hope this helps.

      Can you use the server side event OnSearchPartFilterCompute for this?
      session.whatever = e.SearchDataSubmitted.fieldName

        After experimenting, and I'm using 2821-3911, it looks like it should be

        session.oldSearchValue = e.old.S.fieldValue
        session.searchValue = e.S.fieldValue

        I only tested using debug(1).
        I'll let you do your complete testing.

          Hi, Sorry I'm not really sure what you mean.

          I can find the server side screen for the on change event, but am lost where to go from there?

          Tried a few of the suggestions above but don't really understand?

          Tried using -

          session.filter = e.SearchDataSubmitted.fieldName

          comes up with error.

          I don't understand the last comment,

          session.oldSearchValue = e.old.S.fieldValue
          session.searchValue = e.S.fieldValue

          Sorry if I'm not getting it, but haven't done a lot of coding..

            Not a problem.

            I'll just use one of them.

            Assuming the dropdown box is in the search area, and your session variable is session.RickysSearchValue, and the name of the field with the dropdown box
            is searchFieldValue

            Try the code:
            session.RickysSearchValue = e.S.searchFieldValue

              Thanks have tired your suggestions

              ended up with

              session.filter = e.S.Facilityname

              and it is working:

              Only problem, when a selection is made the page has to be refreshed before it picks up the Session variable and filters the Grid.

              E.g. when filter is selected the grid shows no records, but when page is refreshed, it is okay.

              There may be a better way to what I'm trying to achieve...

              Maybe have a drop down box at top of page that can be used to set a session variable and then use that to filter records????

              Many thanks..

                Re: Set a Session Variable with change of the Search Grid - Drop down Box value?

                I would not use 'filter' as a variable name. That is a reserved word and could cause other problems.
