Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Custom control in Grid does not refresh when .refreshrow is called

So I have a simple Grid.

In it is a custom control defined to display some text retrieved from a separate SQL query.

If I make changes to a single row of data in the Grid (via a dialog, say, doesn't matter) and the refreshRow(xx) js method is called, the Grid row refreshes as expected EXCEPT for the custom control.

I need the grid to recalculate the custom control (via an automatic callback to get updated database values), but I'm not sure if there is a simple way - there surely should be and probably is.

Anyone know how to refresh the grid row INCLUDING the custom control?

I don't want to work around this one - I would call it a bug if you can't....or maybe just a lack of expected functionality?

    Thanks,
    Andy.

Re: Custom control in Grid does not refresh when .refreshrow is called

I have a few custom controls, and my perception is that everything refreshes as it should.

You're good enough that I shouldn't even call this into question, but could there be something in the construct of the custom control that is of issue?

To test I'd start by making another grid with a custom control - maybe one that adds up two other columns, so Column1 = 1, Column2 = 2, and Custom Control = Column1 + Column2, including when you change and submit the values of Column1 or 2.

Yea, I will put a bit more effort in and report back...

      UPDATE:
.refreshRow(x) js method definitely not working for me. I am using the pre-release build from 7th Aug - not sure if relevant.

      To test, just add a custom control to any grid, and set the return value in the definition to the xbasic time() function. I also added a per-row button with an onclick that did a {grid.Object}.refreshRow({Grid.RowNumber}); and an action button at bottom that did a {grid.Object}.refresh();

On my system, the custom control (showing current time) does not get updated with each refreshRow(x) grid method call.

However, the .refresh() grid method works as expected.

Anyone feel like quickly checking this on a grid?

I'll agree, this does not refresh the custom control.

          Nor does this:

          {grid.Object}.refreshRow(3);

Using the current official release 2765_3967

it is not a bug. row refresh method only refreshes data. a custom control is html that is generated on the server. you can do a full page refresh.

Ok. Thanks for that Selwyn. I should have known this, I guess, but a method name like refreshRow inspires such grandeur....
It would, however, be sweet if you could call a special refreshRowfromDatabase function that would perform any callbacks required to fully refresh a row. It makes a difference in large, slower grids.

Ah - note my careful wording -- I just said I confirmed the behavior.

Just thinking out loud here, but I'm wondering if the Client-Side OnRowRefresh might be used to drive a callback that fills the columns as you need. They wouldn't necessarily "re-run" the code in a custom control, but still serve the same purpose as you're pursuing. I think?

Re: Custom control in Grid does not refresh when .refreshrow is called

Steve, I would have, but I'm using a row expander and this event triggers 15 times (if you have 15 rows) each time you open your row expander. I am not sure why this happens, but I didn't see any way of changing the behavior.

All's well, I have finished coded a refresh callback that refreshes all my custom controls. This callback is triggered when a change is made in some other grid or dialog, depending. Each custom control is now populated via separate xbasic functions. I am only defining the control logic once because these functions are used by each custom control definition as well as the refresh callback (which calls each in turn). It's working well and is less annoying than a full refresh.

                    Thanks for helping out...

fyi - in the next update (build 2892 or above), we have made the following change:

Grid Component - .RefreshRow() Method - Custom Controls - This method now refreshes any custom controls in the current row.
