Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Show 1 Row in Grid but ALL Rows With Search

    I want the grid to only show one row as most of the time there will be only one record that needs to be shown. There will be times, however, when I want the grid to show all records found. I set the 'Rows of data' properties to 1 and the 'Rows of data when search active' to 0 but when the query is run, it only shows one (1) record rather than all matching records. If this is how it's supposed to work, show only one record even if there were more, perhaps someone could explain what this means: "To display all records in a single page, set rows to 0" or a way to accomplish viewing only one record/row when one record is found and all records/rows when more than one record is found.

    Thanks much,

    The reason why only one record shows even though the query results are more than one, is because the 'Rows of data' is set to one. Whatever that number, that's the max number of records that will show even though there are more. As such, I don't see the value of setting 'Rows of data when search active' to 0. The only way to view all the records is to have the 'Rows of data' set to an arbitrary higher number. The drawback is that now the grid takes up the entire screen, top to bottom.

    Knowing what you can achieve will not become reality until you imagine and explore.

    I would set rows to 0 - use a number like 10 or 15 so that it gets paginated.
    You could try to add logic to onGridExecute (server-side event) that would set the number of rows if a certain condition is met.
    if comecondition then
    e.tmpl.rows = 1
    else
    e.tmpl.rows = 15

    OR instead, just allow the "records per Page" dropdown to be shown at the bottom of the grid - defaulting to 1, but the user could change to 10 or whatever.

      Re: Show 1 Row in Grid but ALL Rows With Search

      In the AfterSearch server-side event it is possible to discover the number of search results and then with the appropriate Javascript response it is possible to set the number of grids rows - see attached.

      Note1: In grid properties there is also a max rows property (defaults to 200) so additional code probably needed to set a maximum number if there are a large number of results.

      Note2: When Clear Search is presses a similar action needs to reset the grid size to 1. See client-side events AfterSearchClear and enter
      Code:
      {grid.Object}.setRowsPerPage(1);
      Hope this helps.
