Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hi Robert,

I cannot publish to localhost with this pre-release. Don't know if it's just me. Official release works just fine. Notified Alpha but haven't heard anything back yet.

        Hi Stephen,

I'm using the official release and as far as I know it's 2765-3967. Each time I've checked for an update it always tells me I have the latest update. Is that the same one you're using? I'm just curious if I'm missing an update.

        Thanks

          John,

No, you are not missing updates. The last official update was 2765_3967 (released on 29 JUN 2012 09:58 AM).
Robert was asking about a pre-release build.

            Re: Build 2945- 4005

Unfortunately, fixes and new features have been going into the pre-releases.
This would be ok, except Alpha Software specifically states that pre-releases SHOULD NOT
            be used for production environments.

This has the bad effect of no fixes for a production product since June.

Do not use this build for anything live - or important. The best build to date in my personal view way August 17. - Remember this is the work area - it has up's and down's and is a good heads up on what is coming - but that's it.

FYI, I grabbed build 2953_4006 this morning and so far so good.
Remember that this is a pre-release build and not intended for production use!

                  Re: Build 2945- 4005

Against the disclaimer, I use an August pre-release in a live environment because the extra features and fixes made it worthwhile to do so - and it is stable.
But not all prereleases are stable - they go through up-and-down phases depending on what is being worked on.
I am still waiting on the September prereleases to settle down a bit - I had a few breakages and bugs for a while there....

                    Re: Build 2945- 4005

This has been one of the longer times between production releases. I am hoping they get one out the door soon. I am VERY glad they are taking their time between releases to make them as bug-free as possible. The challenge is they are constantly adding additional new features which have to be tested. I love the new features...but I really would like to take advantage of some of the bug fixes!
