Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Refreshing a Grid after Populating data from a Dialog

    Hi,
    I have been trying a number of ways to get my parent grid to refresh with data entered in a dialog after the submit button is clicked.

    This video shows that once the Submit button on the Dialog is clicked the row in the grid automatically refreshes.
    http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...BackToGrid.swf

    I have a grid with a button that Opens a Dialog, the Dialog populates with any data that has already been populated in the table, once any data is entered in the Dialog I have a submit button that writes the data back to the Grid, this works well but the Grid isn't refreshing like the video shows.

    My Grid Name is FT_Flight_Schedule_Stats

    The JS OnClick code for the Submit Button on the Dialog is:
    Code:
    var parentGrid = window['__callingGridAlias'];
    var parentRow = window['__callingGridRow'];
    if(typeof parentGrid != 'undefined' && typeof parentRow != 'undefined') {
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('OnGround');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','OnGround',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('OnChocks');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','OnChocks',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('Doors_Open');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','DoorsOpen',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('First_Pax_Off');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','FirstPaxOff',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('Last_Pax_Off');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','LastPaxOff',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('First_Bag_Off');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','FirstArrBag',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('Last_Bag_Off');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','LastArrBag',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('Boarding_Clear');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','BoardingClosed',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('First_Pax_On');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','FirstPaxOn',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('Last_Pax_On');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','LastPaxOn',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('Doors_closed');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','DoorsClosed',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('Beacon_Light');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','BeaconLight',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('Off_Chocks');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','OffChocks',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('No_Of_Pax');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','NoOfPax',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('No_OF_Bags');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','NoOfBags',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('No_Of_SSR');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','NoOfSSR',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('Freight_KG');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','FreightKG',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('Delay_Codes');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','DelayCodes',parentRow,val);
    		var val = {dialog.object}.getValue('Delay_Notes');
    	window[parentGrid + '_GridObj'].setValue('G','DelayNotes',parentRow,val);

    	var cw = A5.windows.getFromElement(this);
    	cw.hide();

    }

    I've read a number of other posts on similar topics but can't find anything that has helped.

    Cheers

    Can't see anything wrong with your code. Is your Inline javascript in your grid setting up your window vars? I've duplicated the code as well for a few controls and all seems good. Maybe post your grid and dialog.

      I have the following Inline Javascript in the Grid for the OnClick event on the button that opens the Dialog:
      Code:
      window['__callingGridAlias'] = {grid.object}.gridId;
      window['__callingGridRow'] = '{grid.RowNumber}';
      I have attached the Open a Dialog setup.

      When you say post my Grid and Dialog, do you mean post the Xbasic code?

        You have single quotes around your {grid.RowNumber}... take those out and see how it is.

          Hi David,

          I put the quotes in as per the video:
          http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...BackToGrid.swf

          When I remove them it doesn't seem to make any difference.

          If there is already a value in the grid field, when I open the dialog it populates correctly with the values, if I change a value in the dialog and submit it the new value appears in the grid, ie the Grid seems to refresh. If there is no value, when I open the dialog and populate it and submit it no values appear in the grid. If I then submit the row and refresh the grid manually the values appear...

          I have set the Open Dialog option to Refresh Current Row (See screenshot) but I don't know why this isn't working.

          I have created another 'simpler' test grid and dialog but still can't get it working...

            Re: Refreshing a Grid after Populating data from a Dialog

            You are using an old method - check (read) the description of the options available to you now in the onClick events. You don't need to do any of the code.

              Right click on your Grid and choose Export. Then, from the dialog that pops up choose Selected file and then select both the Grid and the Dialog - the new simple test ones. They'll be zipped and you can attach it here. Using your current method I see both and existing and new record are updated. As Pete points out, you can use other methods but this does work.
