Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Have a look at your connections string I heard some are having issues with the patch over writing their strings, you probably have to rebuild the string and republish it.

Frank do you run a stock xml server file?
Not sure of what you mean. I have my configuration files in an alternative directory. The contents are nothing special.
By chance do you bind to an ip address?
        No

I had to move back to the last stable build. I could not figure this problem out. It did not make sense. My application accessed my database OK and worked fine otherwise (grids work OK) after the update so I know my connection string is good, When I try to print I get a message that access to my database is denied to the name and password in my connection string which works just fine with grids.
I tried all of the usual things like deleting and republishing the alb file, republishing the entire website, rebuilding the connection string. Still the same result. I am fairly certain the problem is not with my system. Everything worked before the update and now everything works again after rolling back.
I think this release is not quite ready for the prime time. Maybe Alpha needs to provide better instructions about the report server.

After rebooting the server I did get an Icon in the task bar that looked like a printer. When I ran the a5w script it returned that the printer server was online. Too bad I could not generate a report.

Another note, a label report actually did print so that made the issue even more confusing.

If you only stared one and after printing a report you have two, that means it is working.

Having similar problems, connection is failing. I have the latest builds on server and development machine, feature pack installed, re-started both machines, re-published many times and re-defined strings in publishing profiles. This is all I can get:

Re: New Report Server Feature Pack

Here's a workaround from Alpha for the Report Server. Edit your connection string to use a plain text password instead of the encrypted password. I did that, and now it is working successfully.

I suspect there will be a patch soon that fixes this so we can return to encrypted passwords.

Thanks fr the tip Pat. Not sure how to do that so I'll wait for a patch. In the meanwhile I have disabled the feature pack, re-published and re-started the server, thats taken me back to square one (reports OK) without having to roll-back the build.

Using the plain text password, ran a large 600 page profit report and on another browser ran 6 other reports at the same time. Worked great.

How do you set up a plain text password for the connection string?

No. I am not sure of how to use plan text passwords. I do not see an option for that in the connection sting builder.

Re: New Report Server Feature Pack

Well I figured out how to set the password to plain text, I think. If I edit the connection string outside of the builder I can replace the encrypted characters with plain text and it seems to still connect OK.

Instead of the same password error as foodtester I am now getting this error

Report did not print. Error reported was:

                            Layout name: servicelog2@C:\A5WebRoot\bhvac.alb
                            Layout type: report

SQLReporting 9 - Could not create ResultSet from DataSource definition. Could not execute query against Database. Error reported was: Success.

                            SUCCESS MY A&#

What is strange is I can run a label report. When I do an Icon that looks like a printer is added to the taskbar of the server representing the printer server.

I am not sure of what to do next. I will have to rollback again if I can't get this working soon.

                              Success.

It is working! The error I was getting was self inflicted. I was experimenting with my reports yesterday and I forgot to change the datasource back. So everything is working OK again with the plain text password.

If I could upload an image I would show you what the printer server icon looks like.

The reports seem to be pretty darn fast. (special speed testing lingo)

Frank thats great, make sure to have a good look at reports. I have a bunch of reports that things are missing ie lines that stretch beyond regular printer margins and items that usually wouldnt fit using normal margins. Alpha before this patch was letting us use very small margins and now it seems like they are back to standard margins like .50cm
I had to rollback today to an older build for this reason.
