Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I made it easier to find your Meyers-Briggs results with a helpful link after you have received your Type code. Sorry about that.

came accross this post so thought i'd show my work. this is a demo version we use for training so feel free to mess about. its not fully up to date with the production version so may be a few things not right and some recent features added recently where there may not be enough data to appreciate it.

it's jam packed full of features and makes our life a lot easier.

        Richard,

Wow! That looks awesome. You have some really cool things going on there, like the notifications, messages & tasks in the header section. I LOVE that! No clue how you achieved it.
And no TabbedUI tabs .. how did you make them disappear?

I really like the dark/red theme too. Really great looking app. Well done.

Re: Fun Topic: Show off your work!

          Thanks Stephen,

I bought a HTML template from http://themeforest.net/category/site...dmin-templates, amended the pages for my use, converted them to .a5w pages, imported in to Alpha5 and then added my alpha components. i also use a bit of xbasic directly in to the templates html sections, such as the number badges on the top menu notifications etc.

One downside is the menus, because i dont use alphas menus if i need to make a change it can take a bit of time changing all pages but it can be done quickly in something like EW4 using find and replace (which would be a really useful feature to be included in alphas page editor).

to avoid alphas TabbedUI, i used the html templates boxes and menus and just added my own components. it does mean on some pages there are multiple components but it doesnt affect the time to load too much. My fact find has 13 components so i put each one on a seperate page.

finally i ammended alphas CSS to get the components to fit with the theme. i think this can be done by editing the class names but i found that too difficult so i just changed the css sheet.

the template i used has changed a bit since i did this site but this is an updated version of the template i used. http://www.keenthemes.com/preview/me...n_1/index.html

Re: Fun Topic: Show off your work!

Hi All, thought we'd throw our hat in the ring with some of the work we are doing.

The attached images are samples from modules deployed onto our enterprise platform. The platform is a common application platform for enterprise type, multi-tenant implementations so we needed a structure that allowed us to easily add functional modules.

It took some serious time to get it all to behave and its not pixel perfect yet but generally its working very well. Its all done within A5 and with multiple TUI's.

We been focusing on client modules so have not gone back to the CSS for a while. Our grids are still quite basic and were not quite there in terms of the color palette. For the next iteration we will be looking at dynamic CSS/skins so if anyone has done this within A5 please let me know.

            Probably most frustrating are:
            1. A5 shares some style classes across different components eg table headers with tui headers. Separating these out is painful.
            2. The amount of time it takes to get scrolling and alignment correct which can often only be done by leaving little adjustments scattered through out the settings and CSS - just waiting to break!
            3. Constant crashes of HTML Editors/Style Editor.

            Getting there!

Made a new logo for the holiday season...https://www.nwcopro.com
see post #51 if you want to give the application a free test ride...or just see what I am up to.
Currently I am working on the "field report" in the techapp side so that embedded UX may be a bit buggy tonight.

I plan on sometime soon creating a phonegap app using the new form view controls, etc but for now I am fairly happy with how versatile Alpha is across devices, desktop, tablet , and phones.

I have long abandoned the internal HTML Editor & Style Editors in AA and use Brackets -- then copy and paste where I need to do so, and directly edit css and js files.

                  Thank you Michael.

Yes its a pity about the style editor. I was one who complained about the lack of a unified editing environment previously and was grateful for the new editor. However its just not stable.

I had never heard of Brackets but am downloading to try. Does it handle Alpha's component css (grids etc) i.e. can you preview them in Brackets?

Re: Fun Topic: Show off your work!

I work on a mac so I am running vmware to do AA -- and I share my AA working directory. So in Brackets I can open up my css folder.

I also use the freeform container inside the UX to to display the majority of fields and controls. So I also store my working HTML files in the css folder and then copy and paste them into the freeform container in AA. It makes it nice so I can edit both my HTML and CSS together.

I would upload pics of what this looks like, but for some reason I cannot get any pics to upload.

Re: Fun Topic: Show off your work!

in brackets you can preview index.html via their node.js server. you can also edit your css, you have to load the folder where the css resides.
to preview the component then you have to see it in alpha, brackets node.js does not know how to interpret a5 commands. if you want to create index.html with some fields and want to see them brackets can do it for you.
                      thanks for reading

Over the past few months I have completely reworked my web application to give a more consistent look and feel across all the pages.
                                - I have replaced most of my original grid components with lists, I find that the list component gives far greater power and features.
                                - Most of my graphics have been replaced with SVG icons.

I can't provide access to the site but I can share a few screenshots.
