Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Mobile redirect

    I am having an issue with mobile browser redirect. In my other web applications I use .php and am able to include a detect page but with Alpha it doesn't look like php is available. Here is my code as it would read at the top of a typical index.php page

    <?php include("detect.php");
    DetectBrowser();

    ?>

    I have a mobile version of my current Alpha5 application but how do you recommend users incorporate both desktop and mobile versions seamlessly?

    Re: Mobile redirect

    I use this:
    if contains(mpc,"android") .and. contains(mpc,"phone") then
    response.redirect("TabbedUI_MainFrameMobi.a5w")
    elseif contains(mpc,"iphone") then
    response.redirect("TabbedUI_MainFrameMobi.a5w")
    else
    response.redirect("MainFrame.a5w")
    end if

      OK, so then my next question is...where do you put that code? The only if statment I see is within the login.a5w page I have. Would it make sense to create a new Index.htm page, run your if statement then continue to a login page? I'm not creating something needing strict security.

        Re: Mobile redirect

        I put this in an A5W page called LoginCheck. I then "include" the LoginCheck.A5W in the index.A5W page. It works very well.

        <%a5
        if contains(mpc,"android") .and. contains(mpc,"phone") then
        response.redirect("TabbedUI_MainFrameMobi.a5w")
        elseif contains(mpc,"iphone") then
        response.redirect("TabbedUI_MainFrameMobi.a5w")
        else
        response.redirect("MainFrame.a5w")
        end if
        %>

          I'm needing to do this too and found a different approach that's likely less accurate, but what is the mpc variable in your code?

            Re: Mobile redirect

            Sorry missed that part:
            dim mpc as c = Lower(request.useragent)

            Put this on an A5W page
            <%a5
            ?A5W_INFO()
            %>
            and run it.
            It will give lots of info.

              Re: Mobile redirect

              Okay, so I'm using the same Request.UserAgent. I'll tell you though, I was starting to work on this around Thanksgiving and logged in via my mom's Android to test some things on our application, and it doesn't have "phone" in the Request.UserAgent, so she would have slipped past your check. I had done a similar if check on ours just using "iphone" .or. "mobile" (rather than your "iphone" .or. ("android" .and. "phone")), but I'm looking now too and seeing that it looks like an iPad (as well as other tablets I haven't had access to to test) would have qualified under the "mobile" category.

              I wonder how to capture it all--could your "iphone" .or. ("android" .and. "phone") be changed to "iphone" .or. ("android" .and. "mobile") or do Android tablets have "mobile" in the Request.UserAgent?

                Re: Mobile redirect

                I called the ?A5W_INFO() page from each of these devices so that I could see what was in the Request.UserAgent. I have employees with iphones and androids... And it still works for them.

                  UserAgent doesn't just belong to A5:

                  http://www.useragentstring.com/pages...gentstring.php
                  -Steve
                  sigpic

                    Re: Mobile redirect

                    Seems a bit to complicated for me, I'm just going the route of PHP. Had it set up on the Zebra server so I'll see if it works.

                      Based on this: http://notnotmobile.appspot.com/

                      I'm going to use this:
                      Code:
                      if (like("*iPhone*",Request.UserAgent) .or. like("*iPod*",Request.UserAgent) .or. like("*blackberry*",Request.UserAgent) .or. like("*android*",Request.UserAgent) .or. like("*palm*",Request.UserAgent) .or. like("*windows\s+ce*",Request.UserAgent))

                      Comment

                      Working...
