Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dialog Error After Publish

    Afternoon all,

This is my first post to the forums and I am hoping someone much smarter than me can lend a helping hand. I am a newer user to A5 and am having the following problem:

I have a relatively simple dialog bound to a MS SQL 2012 table. The dialog works perfectly (i.e. data binding, add new, navigation) in working, live and local browser modes. When I publish up the files I get the following error and it will not display:

Error executing onDialogExecute event: Error executing event 'onDialogInitialize ': command: a5DialogHelper_populateControlsFromTable(tmpl,e,rtc,100,opx,null_value()) a5DialogHelper_populateControlsFromTable(tmpl,e,rtc,100,opx,null_value()): Too many parameters

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

    Thanks in advance,

Cliff - Where have you been hiding for the last 18 months?

Very hard to duplicate the issue without having your environment setup.

Did this work before and now is broken? Looks extensive and wasn't made in one pass...

Divide and conquer.. Make a simple version or look at the build you are on and compare the release notes...

      Sorry I'm not more helpful...

        Al,

For the past 18 months I've just been kinda "lurking" (aka reading) the forums lol... trying to glean what ideas and information I can from the "seasoned" users like yourself. In a previous life - (before going back to my first love of law enforcement) - I programmed extensively in MS Access/VBA and am slowly making the transition to web programming via the ole' "trial and error" method. It's been both frustrating and very rewarding/satisfying at times thus far. Thanks for the encouragement even if the answer wasn't the exact cure. Still not sure what was going on but I took your advice and simplified things. I stripped out security (for now) and started one piece at a time and managed to get my first dialog working. Thanks to you and all the other wonderful people in these forums that offer help/encouragement to people with lesser A5 programming abilities like myself. I realize you all do this just out of kindness to your fellow man and I sincerely appreciate that. Thanks for taking the time to post.

        Kind regards,

        Cliff

I doubt I will be helpful...but just in case....
Is your developer build the same exact version as the WAS build? They often need to match.
Are your DBs the same schema?
Have you tried clearing publish history and republishing all?
In OnDialogInitialise, edit the serverside action and turn on the debugger.

Thanks Andy for the response. I think we were typing at the same time ..

My builds match on both the server and dev machine.

DB schema's might end up having been the problem... not sure since I completely broke it into pieces and copied it up to the server effectively changing what it was. I tried various things and somehow it resolved itself.

Cleared publishing etc and would have tried your debug if it hadn't worked.

Again, thanks for trying to help. Much appreciated!

Thank you for the kind words. If you've done/are doing law enforcement, I salute you.
