Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dialog Component - Map Control?

    Having set up Plot Route with directions, how do you print the directions which are in a Static Text control?

    Also, is there the option whether to print the map with directions or not?

        Hi Claire,

        Unfortunately not, as you can see there were no other replies.

        There must be a way as Google Maps takes the value and puts it into a printable form.

          Keith, if the directions are in a div with an ID, then you can do any of these:
          http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2...tents-of-a-div

          However, another option is to popup a dialog, populate it with the innerHTML of the parent's div, and automatically call the print function.

            I would be interested in learning how to do that.

              Re: Dialog Component - Map Control?

              Hi Keith,

              I had hinted to it before here: http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ght=directions

              Assume the map directions are in a div called ROUTE_PANEL_ID (the default when you add a map to a dialog).

              Make a new dialog component that will be a used as a popup and triggered by a button next to you directions panel.

              Add a static text field called TEXT_TO_PRINT in your new dialog. Add this in it's onRenderComplete js event:
              Code:
              var po = {dialog.Object}.getParentObject();
              if(po) {
                {dialog.Object}.setValue('TEXT_TO_PRINT', po.getValue('ROUTE_PANEL_ID'));
              }
              If you like, add a button and set the onclick to either window.print() or just print()

              It may be useful to give your users the option of printing both the map and directions, or directions alone. So 2 such buttons may be useful. You also have the other option of using a button to hide the map (display:none; in the style) rather than poping up a dialog.

              Code:
              //hide the map
              var ele = $('{dialog.componentname}.V.R1.MAP1.CONTROL')
              if(ele) ele.style.display = 'none';
              Hopefully this gets you back on track...

                How would I print the content on that dialog
                I would appreciate the help and dont really understand what you have done here.

                  Hi Andy,

                  Still working on this. I have managed to get the second dialog to open with the text in Static text control. Not quite sure why I need to do this. Anyway, only the text on display gets printed.

                  I have looked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2...tents-of-a-div and at this time does not help, because like Claire, I'm also dumb.

                  How do I use the sample code in the dialog button?

                  Many thanks for your help.

                    Re: Dialog Component - Map Control?

                    To print a web page (the whole thing), you would add
                    Code:
                    window.print();
                    to a dialog2 button's onClick event anywhere on the web page.

                    But to print only a portion of the page, you need to isolate that portion in a new popup window.

                    So, my above response was telling you how to isolate a portion of a page:
                    1) open a dialog2 popup (with an html control and a print button)
                    2) populate the control with the data you wish to print

                    This is one way of doing it.

                      Thanks Andy
                      For me window.print() prints what is shown on the screen so if there is more that I need to scroll down to it does not print this.
                      any other ideas? I am reaching the stage where I may just duplicate the dialog in a report which is a shame :-)

                        Sorry to be a pain, but while items 1 and 2 work, the print command only prints what is displayed on the screen and not all the contents of what is contained in the second dialog.

                        As we are able to capture the contents of the static text, is there a way of using that variable in a report?
                        Regards

                          Keith I found a way to get the print to work
                          I basically put the dialog on an a5w page and then opened with parameters
                          the print then prints the entire contents and you can send to pdf etc.

                              Claire, you are absolutely correct - place the component in a new page rather that a popup.
