Hi,
I'm evaluating whether Alpha 5 meets my company's requirements for creating database driven websites. The most basic web pages that we would require consist of the following:
Page 1 should have a list of real estate properties from a Mysql database. Each property should link to page 2 and pass the property ID via some method (i.e. through the URL would be fine). Page 2 should display details and photos for the property that was clicked on from page 1. These details should not be formatted as a table, rather the content should be formatted as you would normally expect from a web page (ie. with paragraph tags and so on).
Now this is pretty basic stuff when using PHP but I can't figure out how to do something so basic in A5. Every tutorial I have found seems to be grid focused and that doesn't seem to be the right way to go. I have also found the tutorials on using XBasic to connect to my database but I can't seem to get those examples to translate to connecting my data to a web page. Clearly, I can't just drop that code into the HTML source within the <%a5 %> tags because I just get an error.
So my questions are:
Is A5 the right tool for creating basic websites with database driven content?
If so, are there any tutorials or pages in the wiki that will point me in the right direction? (I feel like I'm drowning on that wiki and have spent hours trying to find relevant pages without luck!)
Any nudge in the right direction is appreciated.
Thanks!
