Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

          Re: New Official Release

I updated to 4088 today after reading the release notes.
I then opened one of my grids to do some work and was greeted with a msgbox
recommending that I enable AJAX support for the new features.

I clicked OK and then noticed that EVERYTHING in the grid was gone!
No fields, no tables, no connection... A BLANK GRID!.

I opened other grids and this time I clicked NO when asked.
          EVERY SINGLE GRID IS BLANK.

          Dialogs are OK.

          What the hell happened?
Now I have to spend today rolling back to the previous update
          and restoring my backup.

            Re: New Official Release

Did you remember to follow the instructions on the update note?
VERY IMPORTANT: Before using this upgrade you must publish as least one page or component to your server (does not matter which one). This will cause a new version of the __a5RunGrid.a5w and __a5RunReport.a5w system pages to get published. If you do not publish at least one file, your app will still be using an old version of these system file and it will fail. (You do not need to republish your entire application).

NOTE: Windows Server 2012 - Alpha Five Application Server - When installing the Alpha Five Application Server on a Windows Server 2012 machine you will need to download and install the Microsoft 2.0 CLR (Common Language Runtime) on the machine. This is because Windows Server 2012 no longer installs the 2.0 CLR. The 2.0 CLR is used by Alpha Five for all SQL Geography functionality.

            Build 3341- 4088 - Released - 9 Mar-2013

              Re: New Official Release

I said I read the release notes. That means that I did publish an a5w page before hand. My workspace is totally wrecked. I did manage to restore a backup from an earlier date and got all of my fields back, but it hangs on Working Preview.

Well, I just updated (after making sure I had a complete image of everything) and it looks like it's working fine for me.

                    Re: New Official Release

I upgraded to 3341-4088 on Saturday and have not had any issues.

Jinx - That annoying auto-scroll issue when editing dialogs with tab controls was fixed in this version.

Tab Controls on the Dialog is a beautiful thing. I wish more information/example were available.

However I'm getting Unrecoverable Error messages see attached

Is this a common issue or what is the cause of this? Would the new release fix it?

After a day of testing: it is a great build but have breaking issues with lookupgrids.
I reported it to Alpha and will now try to build a testcase, which is not so easy in this case, because half my lookups perform well and cannot find a pattern yet.

Anybody else with problems with lookupgrids?

I think I may be having a problem with looking up a grid and inserting into a control on a dialog. In working preview, it doesn't work the first time but if I click on it again, it works. However; when I publish it, it doesn't work at all. Are you seeing something similar Ger?
