Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Data being overwritten in table ... grrrr

I've wasted hours on this trying to sort it out. This is driving me crazy ...

I have a very simple Dialog Component which is bound to a MySQL table via the Primary Key field. The form (and table) has two other fields, one is the Date (D) and the other is a dropdown (C) with two choices. There are no validation rules set. The server side event is set as ExecuteServerSideAction("Save Data::Save_Submitted_Data_to_Table_s_"), and After Save Action as "enter another record".

This - in my limited experience - should mean that after entering the data and pressing the Submit button the controls would clear (ready for another entry) and the data should be commited to the database table. (I am making the entries using the Dialog in Working Preview.)

What is happening is that the controls clear and the table row is indeed updated.
However, when I make a new entry and Submit, the prior table row is overwritten (the PK, which is auto increment does not increment)
Successive entries produce the same result (overwrite data, no increment).

If I change to Design mode and then back to Working Preview (without any other changes being made) and make an entry, it all works correctly.

Can someone please tell me what am I doing wrong here? Am I missing a setting somewhere?

    Ron,

What would happen if you were to close the dialog, return to the page you came from to open the dialog and then press the button to open the dailog again to enter a new record?

      Hi Keith,

I hope I'm reading your question correctly .. I'm not on any a5w page. All I have is the Dialog (v11.0) I have created and the MySQL table. If I close the Dialog and then reopen it in Working Preview any new data entered will, on the first Submit, work correctly (update table, clear controls) but for all successive entries overwrite the prior data with no increment of the PK.

I should add in Server side events I also have Use Transactions and Debugging Info ticked. Not that clearing them makes any difference to the result.

      Is that what you needed?

I don't get how an INSERT call could possibly overwrite existing data, which would require an UPDATE statement.
But I know that this works...open the dialog from another component via a grid's action button and set it to add new record. Also, in the actual dialog component, set the ExecuteServerSideAction to enter another record. This works flawlessly for me.

            Ron,

What build are you using? This was a bug in 3044-4041 but was supposed to be fixed in the releases following.

              Hi all,

especially Gaby and Dale. I'm using 3044 but in the process of updating to the latest build.

Funnily enough while 'playing' with the issue over the weekend I did add the "Add New Record" button (without any real idea why) and it all then worked. I had mine positioned at the top of the Dialog. Trouble is I didn't realise what had done the trick!! Now I know.

Thanks to everyone who troubled to answer .. I really was going around in circles thinking I was missing somethging vital.

                Hi Ron

I ran into this problem just the other day, it took a bit to figure out. The problem is the primary key list is not refreshing unless you close and reopen the dailog. You can fix this by putting {dialog.Object}.refreshPrimaryKeyList(); in the cleint side afterResetForm . See if that works for you.

Sorry it has taken a day or two to answer this - been busy testing. Nothing (not this suggestion either) worked. I finally downloaded and installed the latest alpha update and now the problem is no more. I'm letting you know this in case it is a problem for anyone else.

Thanks to everybody who tried to help out.

                    Ron,

When you said the problem went away with the latest update, are you saying latest production build (3381-4096) or the latest interim build? Which at the moment is 3393-4098 26-Mar-2103 9:28 AM. (I think someone fat fingered the year on this one.)
