Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Reports stop working exactly one year later!!!

I brought my A5 V11 package back in August 2012. In my app I have a number of reports which use to work up until the anniversity of my purchase. This was not a subscription purchase. It was the full/one time purchase.

Less than a week ago, my reports stopped working. I monitored my actions at Zebra Host (using task manager) and found that ANY request for a REPORT would make the WAS shoot up to 99% of CPU. This is extremely repeatable and is immediate. Nothing else can be done until it totally fails or the user successfully exits the report request. This could take minutes. At best the report says "no records in report",(which is not true). At worse it just hangs the computer and fails to work (just the twirling "Working..." sign.

I find this odd to start happening on the near exact anniversity of my purchase. Could there be some kind of licensing issue. The reports haven't changed in months.

If you have a clue as to what is going on, please let us know.

I just had this happen to me this morning. The problem was that the print driver went corrupt or something.
To fix the problem I had to uninstall the PDF print driver, the ayumuni ( or however you spell it). It would not uninstall but kept showing as trying to delete. So I ended up uninstalling the web server. I had to reboot the main server, then reinstall the a5 web server. I had to actually reinstall the a5 server twice, but finally got the printing to work.
Don't believe it was a Alpha problem, but either something with print driver or with server and file corruption.

had this happen a couple years, and had to do the same thing

      Mike,

Sounds like you went through a lot to get it fixed. Wonder if any others have found this or different possibilities causing the same effect. I don't rightly feel comfortable in performing those rather dramatic steps unless I know them to be the cause of "MY" problem. In the past I've created horror stories while trying to correct scenarios when the solution kept creeping further and further away from me.

I really appreciate your response and feel that it may help me and potentially others who run into the same situation. I am curious however as to the closeness in MY event and YOUR event. Can you answer a couple of points.

      - When did you purchase V11?

      - Was it outright, or subscription?

      - Are you using ZebraHost?

      - How much memory did the server box have?

      Thanks,

      Tom

        - When did you purchase V11? I have more than 1 license and they have purchased over past couple of years

        - Was it outright, or subscription? Outright

        - Are you using ZebraHost? No

        - How much memory did the server box have? 32gb

not such a big deal and pretty harmless. Delete the driver, shutdown and uninstall a5 web, reboot server then reinstall a5. None of the published files or settings get changed. More time consuming than anything

        Thanks,
