Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Problem Setting Up Lookup Properties with ODBC table and AlphaDAO

I have a problem setting up a lookup on a form using the lookup property of a text box when working with an ODBC table and AlphaDAO
I have a working connection string
I can see the choices of tables
I can see and select the fileds to display and enter after I choose the table

However when I go to working preview, I get no data

See images for setup and results

    Any help would be appreciated

what does that mean. I am not sure of that.
you did not fill out the fill in fields is that you are referring. if you fill that the fields will be filled. when you return a field it only brings back certain field.
look at the second half fill in fields and there you can select the fields to fill your dialog.

Re: Problem Setting Up Lookup Properties with ODBC table and AlphaDAO

      Ghandi,

Thanks for taking an interest again. I use the lookup properties of text fields all the time when working with .dbf tables. In the lookup definition of the combo list you choose the table, the fields to display and the filed you want returned which is what gets populated in the text box. The fill in feature is very useful in filling in other fields in the form from data from corresponding fields from the record selected.

In this case, I can choose the fields to display and the field I want to populate the text box with just like I normally do. However when I am in Working Preview mode and I can click on the text box field I see the field labels from what I chose but there are NO records returned.

look at the bottom half of the look up definition, it says optional. the second line fill in fields click on that and map the fields you want to fill in with the fields from the lookup table. it should do it.
if still having problems post back I will post a screencast.

Re: Problem Setting Up Lookup Properties with ODBC table and AlphaDAO

The problem isn't in the fill in. It is related to the fact that NO choices are shown in the dropdown menu. See the second image from the original post. When I click the test field a box opens with the headings for the fields I want to show but No data appears.

Adding additional info. I can set up the field as a drop down box instead of a text field and under choices I can properly see and make selections but as you are aware, I can only show one filed and I there are no fill in fields available.

The field names are shown, I can select one or more to show and one to return. However in preview mode, no data is being shown for the field. There are 3000 records so I know there should be choices. Ultimately I will filter this down some but I can't get a non filtered version to display any data.

                  Gandhi,

Thanks for the posting of the video. I have now played it three times and It appears that I have executed the lookup exactly like the video shows. What version of Alpha5 are you using?

i keep looking at your image. instead of value it lists the field names.
                          so more questions
                          is the table name correct?
when you click on the expander on the next line do you get to see the fields and you select from them.
if the answer to both questions are yes, then i don't know how to help.
                          sorry.

but you are on preview, which as far as i know just checks the placement of controls.
can you test on working or live preview? those two tabs to the right.

The answer is indeed yes. I have a second computer I'll retest it on tomorrow. A different environment might be useful. Thanks fir your time. One workaround is a linked table with an automated morning refresh. Not as good but doable.
