Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    a5w page editing

I've just started getting the following error message any time I try to open an a5w page for editing, or even trying to create a new page in V11. The applications are OK, because everything works fine in V10. Can anybody help by telling me what's wrong, or how to fix it?
    Many thanks.

      Re: a5w page editing

Update: This is definitely an A5 internal error. If I double-click an A5W page in order to edit it, all I get is a blank page. But if I then select on the source tab at the bottom, it will allow me to go to the top of the page and select a page to edit. Then, if I select that page, it will come up normally and I can edit it. Don't know what could be going on here.

It is because you recently upgraded to Win 8.1 and/or IE11, and A5V11 Developer is not compatible.

Thanks Steve. I'm running the server on GoDaddy and it's Windows Server 2008. It's been working fine up until now.

I cleaned Alpha off the server and then reinstalled. Now when I try to access any of the web application files, the whole thing hangs. Task Manager says something is going on, but I can't tell what and I've waited up to 30 minutes. Is this Server edition also a problem for V11?

This server issue a second issue? Or are you trying to explain the first issue still?

No, same issue. I loaded V11 on the server and have been using that as the development platform as I am going back and forth from home to office. I got the first issue with not being able to edit the A5w page, so I figured I would reinstall to see if that would clear this up. Now when I try to edit a A5W page it hangs the program. I can still see and use the regular desktop dbf's.

                Re: a5w page editing

Looks like the existing pages are corrupt. I can add and modify a new page, but not the old ones. I've hunted around on the A5 site. Where can I find out whether V11 will work on Windows 2008 server?

                Thanks!

Are you loading a5w pages in source view or wysiwyg?

                    Re: a5w page editing

My answer re:Win8.1 was for the first post. Your post claimed the same problem, but now it looks different, if you are not on Win8.1.

A5W pages are plain text before and after publishing, I don't see how you can corupt one. You can open and edit them in Notepad for that matter. Alpha Dev normally runs on Win2008. It is really IE11 that causes the HTML editor problem.

                      Re: a5w page editing

I thought I had cured this problem by reverting to IE10, but today I find that I can create a new page and can add text and an image, but can't add a component. I can, however, go to an existing page, delete a component, add the one I want, and then resave the page under a new name. I'm running Win 7, Alpha 11. Strange, indeed.
