Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Is there a AEX for Javascript functions?

I have some javascript functions that I want hidden from anyone inspecting an a5w page's source code.
    Is it possible?

From Stackoverflow: It is not possible to hide Javascript from the user, since their browser needs to download it to execute it. The only other option is obfuscation. And the link they show is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obfuscated_code. There are online obfuscation tools.

Thanks Steve, but I think what I want is Server Side JavaScript (SSJS), if that's even possible?
Might be an interesting hack though.

I had not heard of SSJS. Reading online, it looks like SSJS would not do what we traditionally think of as client side actions. It would be like using .asp or php, or Alpha Five for that matter. I would think server-side IS server-side even if written using some variation of Javascript.

Re: Is there a AEX for Javascript functions?

Steve's correct. SSJS was built by web programmers who wanted to write in Javascript for both client-side language and server-side language. The SSJS could be hidden because it's interpreted on the server by an application server built to read the SSJS (like XBasic is read on the WAS), but any client-side Javascript would still be accessible in the source as Steve noted in his first post.

I do wonder, depending on your situation, if it's something you'd be doing an Ajax Callback with. You could specify a javascript string as the Ajax callback function return and it at least wouldn't be sitting on the source page all the time (someone please correct me if I'm wrong--I probably am).

Re: Is there a AEX for Javascript functions?

I get to return Chris' acknowledgement and say that yes, the JS from a callback would be hidden. Like if you set an onClick function that ran a callback, that returned some js -- the first js (the onClick) will be visible, in the browser source, but the js returned from the callback will not be visible.

BUT it is only hidden in the web page source. Someone could still see it after it is executed in a product like Firebug.

Note - I wasn't totally sure about this, so I tested it. The part in red in my attachment is the JS returned from the callback.

Wakanda uses only JS, including Server Side JavaScript. But that won't help you here.

If it executes client-side, no. The best you can do is minify: http://javascript-minifier.com/

If you have an algorithm you absolutely do not want any user to see, read, view, examine, save, parse, steal, etc, do not use client-side javascript. Don't even let it leave the server. Write it in xbasic and send something else to the client.

This is also server-side JS. Doesn't help you with the original need.

Your only hope to "hide" javascript is to "Obfuscate" the code using tools such as http://javascriptobfuscator.com/
