Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    setValue of a checkbox to blank

    Hi
    This code tries to set the value/s inside checkboxes to blank. whatMeds is the checkbox.
    The code runs (no errors) but the values in the checkbox are not deleted. It works with a dropdown, but seems not with checkbox.
    How do I get this to work?
    Thank you

    Code:
    // delete value in WhatMedication if MedsWhenLast > 12 months. Place in OnChange event of MedsWhenLast
    var whatMeds = {dialog.object}.getValue('WhatMedication');
    var medsWhenLast = {dialog.object}.getValue('MedsWhenLast');

    if (('>12-24 months' == medsWhenLast) || ('>24 months' == medsWhenLast)){
    	{dialog.Object}.setValue('whatMeds', '');
    }

    Re: setValue of a checkbox to blank

    var data = {dialog.Object}.getValue('MEDS_WHEN');
    if (data == '12-24 months' || data == '>24 months') {
    {dialog.Object}.setValue('WHAT_MEDS','');
    }

    this works for me, I don't use reverse checking like the pros do.
    I am assuming the meds_when is a dropdownbox.

      Yes MEDS_WHEN is a dropdownbox.
      Must be doing something wrong but no script error messgs and the ticks (single or multiple values) are not deleted.
      What is reverse checking?
      Thanks Gandhi.

        ok, got it working...
        Removed the var statement whatMeds and referenced the WhatMedication field directly, like this

        Code:
        // delete value in WhatMedication if MedsWhenLast > 12 months. Place in onChange event of MedsWhenLast

        var medsWhenLast = {dialog.object}.getValue('MedsWhenLast');
        if (('>12-24 months' == medsWhenLast) || ('>24 months' == medsWhenLast)){
        	{dialog.Object}.setValue('WhatMedication', '');
        }
        Wonder why it did not work with the variable.
        Thanks for the help.

          if (data == '12-24 months' || data == '>24 months')

          vs

          if ('12-24 months' == data || '>24 months' == data)

          the second one, probably better ( you use that one) but I can't think straight like that. I need more time to learn that.

          {dialog.Object}.setValue('WhatMedication', '');
          I am under the impression WhatMedication needs to be in caps like WHATMEDICATION.

          Wonder why it did not work with the variable.
          you are setting value to the dialog object, while variable gets its value it will not operate on the object as far as I know.
          thanks for reading

            Agree it does feel strange. In another post TheSmitchell suggested put the value first so that if there is a problem you get an error instead of a silent failure.

            The field name in the dialog is WhatMedication and it seems to work (camelcase, not all caps).
            What I find strange is that when I assign the variable name whatMeds to WhatMedication it does not work. Seems that setValue needs the actual field name, not an assigned variable with a different name. Seems it works if you reference the field name directly, or if you use a variable it must be the same name as the field name (caps etc dont matter as long as the name is the same). But then why use a variable, just set it directly.

              The one reason to use variable, I think, is to go get the value from the dialog once and manipulate with it for the next few times and then get back to dialog to set a value.
              On the other hand if you reference the dialog object and property in the following many calculation javascript has to go back to the dialog all the time and get the information.
              May be repeated calls to dialog might annoy it and make it unresponsive. You think?

                Yes it probably does make sense to use the variable. But it is strange that it seems to work only if the variable name is the same as the field name. I will watch out for this when I do more dialogs. Thanks for the help today, appreciate it...
