The Setting:
There are 3 grids. Grid1 is on the left (Buggs Bunny)The remaining fields in the grid are accessed by clicking the Cust Id link to show the Detail View. I placed a Linked Grid with the grids fields. This shows grid2 which are to the top right, the fields in red. Grid2 also has a Linked Grid with it's fields. It appears below Grid2. I got it to appear below Grid2 by adding a 'break' before the link in the linked grid properties.
How it works: A customer is located by doing a search. I searched for the last name of 'Bunny'. After typing 'Bunny' in the Last Name field, I pressed the Enter key and the record for Buggs Bunny appeared, along with the associated records in grids 2 & 3. I tested the tab order by clicking on the last name field, Bunny and pressed the tab button. However, instead of going to the first Name field, it instead went to the Cust Id field and then to the Cust Id field label, then to the other 2 labels and finally back to the Cust Id, Last Name and First Name fields. where did it go next? Well, it went to grid 2 and then to the 'Same As' label and the rest of the labels before going to the grid2 fields. From there, it went to grid3 in the same manner.
Field Labels: The tab order includes the field labels so that the user can gain focus on a field label in order to Press the Enter Key to sort the field. However, while pressing the Enter key will sort the field, the label loses focus as the screen does a whoop-t-do and flashes. 1 more tab press moves focus back to the first field in Grid1, the Cust Id field. Clicking in any field and pressing the tab button will not advance the focus to the next field. It will advance focus to the Cust Id field. Thus, there is a pecking order but as far as I can tell, the order CANNOT be changed. The pecking order begins with Grid1, then Grid2 and then Grid3 beginning with the first label in each grid. As I said, if you click in a field, you cannot tab from there forward but instead, backwards to field label 1 of Grid1.
Setting the field property to "No Sort" will remove the field labels from the tab order so if you don't need to sort a column, that helps. However, there is no changing or even starting at some point to move forward. There is no ability to edit the tab order or remove fields from the tab order. I'm surprised others have not voiced a concern about this issue since web apps do need tabbing features. Constantly switching back and for the between the keyboard and the mouse is time consuming and for heavy data entry users, that is not good.
