Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    automatic refresh

    is there any way to automatically refresh the page on a WAS component, which manually is done by pressing F5.
    just like the timer on a form, but on the WAS.

    It didn't like the sys_send_key({F5})
    I got a message that this function couldn't be used on the WAS.

    You can do it, but it'll required some javascript or AJAX depending on how you want to go about it.

      I'm trying to avoid pressing any buttons. If I can get it to act like a timer to refresh.

        Are you familiar with the meta refresh tag? Would that do what you want?

        You need some event: a timer, a condition - something. Perhaps you could be a little more forthcoming about your needs.

          To be honest NO, I don't know what meta refresh tag is.

          if I'm looking at a read only grid on a page, I would like to see new records that have been added to mysql database since I opened the page without keep pressing F5 to refresh. That would act like a timer with the

          topparent.ServerSideRefreshAll() Function

          I'm using this database for display only. My risk department is monitoring for certain accounts that have activities, so if an account doesn't exist in the database initially but started in the middle of the day, it should show up when it's refreshed.

            Try searching Google for it... it's used in HTML and not specific to Alpha5.

              hi Anis

              this would be placed in the head section of your page
              and should refresh it every 40 seconds

              <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="40">

              hth
              regards

                Thanks for all.
                I googled this and I found the same thing from Martin, I think that should work fine.

                  Great! Sorry for the brief reply before, was trying to work in too many different windows at the same time!

                  Anyway, anything to do with refreshing is usually done on the client side so if you look for similar things in future, Javascript or HTML tags are your friends...

                      A bit of Javascript can go a long way, so to say - Alpha5 generates a lot of Javascript in the grid and dialog components (when they are published) but of course you can add whatever Javascript you like to a HTML or a5w page, and as of a recent build, you can also add JS to onClick events on the navigation component :)
