Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Errors in: stack underflow: need help

    I'm getting the following error on my a5v9 webappl.

    Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:
    Result stack underflow

    I have restarted my system and it still shows.

    I receive this error when I go to an online dialog form to submit info to the tables.

    The info is properly stored in the tables, but after the submit the page is suppose to revert to a new a5w page to indicate submission was successful, but it just shows the above error and the dialog form.

    Any suggestions on what is causing the error?

    Thanks in advance.

    Is this only occuring after applying latest update (1564_3190+)?

      Re: Errors in: stack underflow: need help

      Are you using any UI_ functions on the a5w page or in the dialog events? These usually cause stack underflow errors.

          Re: Errors in: stack underflow: need help

          ok, so I updated the WAS to the current patch 1565_3191, but now I have new problems.

          The SSL site doesn't work now. So I just reinstalled the previous patch but that didn't fix the SSL.

          So went back to each previous patch but now my HTTP and SSL doesn't work.

          So now I went back to the original patch I was at 1522-3187 everything works fine except I still have the original error:

          Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:
          Result stack underflow

          Any suggestions?

            Re: Errors in: stack underflow: need help

            The SSL problem is a bug that was introduced in 1557-3189. It has been identified and fixed, but a patch is not yet available. You can resolve this for now by going back to build 1534-3188. You can download the older builds from http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/a...nate/index.htm

            I understand you are already in contact with our technical support staff and working together on the stack underflow error message.

              Re: Errors in: stack underflow: need help

              Lenny, thanks, yes, I'm currently using 1534-3188 and yes everything works now except the same underflow problem:

              Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:
              Result stack underflow

              I'm waiting for tech support to help figure out what is causing the problem, I'm getting many very upset prospects who are submitting my online forms repeatedly, because they aren't getting to the submission confirmation page.

              I look forward to the fix.

              the aftervalidated code is below, if you think you might see a problem. My forms worked fine with a5v8, then I noted they started to show this problem after I upgraded to a5v9., I have not changed the code on any of them since a5v8.

              Code:
              Dim tbl1 as p
              Dim tbl2 as p
              Dim tbl3 as p
              Dim tbl4 as p
              Dim tbl6 as p
              '***there are other table inserts but not needed for example***

              '********************************** notes table *****************
              tbl6=table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\notes")
              tbl6.enter_begin()
              tbl6.Contact_id=vCID
              tbl6.Note_Memo=alltrim(CurrentForm.Controls.vNote.value)
              tbl6.Create_date=date()
              tbl6.User="Miller, Rand"
              tbl6.Type="Email Rcvd"
              tbl6.enter_end()
              tbl6.close()

              '************* send email ***************
              dim message as p
              vBody = "You have a new form submitted by "+CurrentForm.Controls.vName_First.value+" "+CurrentForm.Controls.vName_Last.value
              vBody=vBody+crlf()+"The contact Id is "+vCID
              vBody=vBody+crlf()+"Their email address is "+CurrentForm.Controls.vEmail.value
              vBody=vBody+crlf()+"They live in "+CurrentForm.Controls.vCity.value+", "+CurrentForm.Controls.vState.value
              message.message=vBody
              message.to="[email protected]"
              message.subject="Alpha Purchase Loan Request"
              email_send2(message,"thevine")

                Re: Errors in: stack underflow: need help

                Simple fix, I guess my indexes got messed up. So I repacked all the tables and now no more problem. a lesson learned.

                  I am getting this result stack underflow error a lot, which UI_ functions would cause this?

                    Nicki,
                    My slim understanding is that you cannot use ANY UI types in the webside.

                      Thats correct - UI is for desktop user interface

                      Note: I am working on a add-in library for A5 which will give you better that UI Ajax features (inc masked edit, rich text editing, popup boxes, dynamic tables, etc etc) + full desktop debugging & development allowing you to create the same app for both desktop or web. It is called the A1-framework. It may be of interest to you further down the track.
